Hi, wonder if someone can help me.
I'm a new owner of 1994 Deville 4.9L, a great car.
The radio installed is the original UX-1 type (radio cassete), i want to replace it with a radio-CD without damaging the original panel.
Second thing, there is no courtesy gong, can you tell the reason for that ?
Thanks, Danny.

Danny, you will need to purchase a stereo install kit for your Deville to replace the Factory deck with an aftermarket one. You can buy the kits at any Wallmart store, but you will have to look on the kit and make sure it lists the year and model of your vehicle > The kits are Universal and come with instructions. Here is a site you can go to for future reference. http://www.carstereohelp.net/wireharness.htm

Please tell me Mike where you acquired that miss information. Cadillacs have a factory amp and a tuner that you will need to intergrate/bypass,respectivley. I have a 1993 Eldorado that needed a wire harness that cost 88.95..that no wal-mart or any stereo shop in town carries.Second...the trim plate. I am not too sure on that one as i have a Eldo and not a Deville...but i am sure they are the same.and Scosche ( which is the supplier for Wal-mart) does not carry the trim plate you will need...
Every one is telling ppl to go to car stereo help, never been there nor do i care to go there..but if anyone needs to get peices for there Cadillacs then they should try out www.installer.com, if they want to go to www.metraonline.com they can which i might add is a great place.although you can't buy anything from them because they don't sell to the public. If you do some research you can find the part you need and then go to a retailer that they deal with ( Circuit City is the biggest i know of) and have them order it for you.
Hope this helps out all those who are need of correct info or for those that need correct info.

The Wallmart Super Centers around here all carry the Universal dash kits, if they are out of them you can find them at any Auto Zone or Pep Boyz auto parts stores, The GMK454 kits from American Accessories are one of the kits i use and buy, and just to inform you about http://www.carstereohelp.com They are an Authorised AC Delco and Bose Dealer and Repair center and their site is very informative when it comes to speaker, stereo, amp, changer installation and uninstallation procedures. ;) I am sorry you had to pay so much for a wire harness > sucks being you huh :D

Well, umm let's see..I guess you got me...NOT !!!..Come on now Mike,Your name would suggest that you know something in the stereo world..but yet you talk like you have no idea..First off..If in fact the kit ( GMK454) you suggest even fits the Cadillac...it is a mass production "Universal fit"...who wants some generic item in there Cadillac.and if you would of taken the time to read everything that i had written then you would of seen that i said i am not too sure about the Deville as i have a Eldo...Now in the ELDO no Wal-mart carries either the trim plate nor do they carry the wire harness..and secondly if your in the car stereo sales and installlation field then why are you buying parts at Wal-mart? Seems kinda cheap if you ask me. Now on to the harness...Explain to me how you are going to bypass the tuner that is in the trunk with a wire harness that only plugs into the wires behind the stereo? Here is some help so you can see what i am talking about and maybe you can put aside your ego for a second and see that someone knows a bit more then you do on this matter. You can go to this site and see the wire harness, www.installer.com/wires/index.html If you scroll down to the second Yellow section you will see the Cadillac information...Or if you prefer it is all in alphabetical order. If you choose not to use this item then you will have to re-wire the whole stereo system and bypass the factory amps. They do sell just the tuner bypass. This is another page on the same sight mentioned above that shows you the dash kit to use for any particular Cadillac. www.installer.com/kits/index.html If you notice there is a little pocket under the deck so you don't have just a black panel that not only looks ugly but looks cheap in a Cadillac. You will clearly see that these dash kits are premier compared to those generic ones you would have people buying or looking at, or from what i gather selling yourself.
Now on to it sucking to be me...although the wire harness sells for 88.95, i got mine for 45.00 as the ppl where i bought the deck had no idea how to hook it up and didn't even show the part that they needed to get it done. They first sold me the wrong items..so i am the one that had to do the research and find out what i needed..the parts that were needed would of cost me over 100 bucks but since i found others (kinda like you with a lack of information) i recieved these items for 60 dollars.
Again Mike...I would suggest you get all your information correct when telling ppl on here what to do, since your name would suggest you have some knowledge on this matter. You are only appearing to be a ignorant person on this subject to those of us who have gone through this and know what is actually needed.
Could you tell me what store you work at so if i am ever in your city and need car stereo parts, i can just pass your place by and use my time finding a place that actually knows that they are talking about.

I believe i sent this man to the right place with the right "info" as well, i just noticed he doesn't live in this country so he may not have a Wallmart, PepBoyz or Auto Zone close by. :D AnotherCaddyowner > I don't buy anything but dog food from Wallmart, and i don't work at a car audio store, I Own One, I am "Factory Direct" and i don't purchase 80.00 dollar bypass harnesses. "Depending on the install" All new wires are ran and we Bypass the factory system entirely, it just depends on what all the customer is having installed. All of my Installers are Certified and they do a great job i might add. I am not going to argue with you about car audio, i am also not going to explain in detail how everything is done, i sent him to http://www.carstereohelp.com for "imformation" Not parts or equipment, and yes i went to all your links and checked out ALL the accessories and they do have a great selection of installation parts ;) Why don't we Work together and Share what we know to help others :) I enjoy The Cadillac Forums and there are alot of great people on here so in the future just because you don't agree with me on something doesn't mean we can't get along.

Well Mike, I can beleive you thought you sent him to the right place...That is why i am here to tell you that you didn't. You stated he could go to "ANY" Wal-mart,Pep boys, Auto Zone to get the product he needed to replace his Factory stereo. That is just not the case..www.installer.com has a better selection and a far superior visual styling, not to mention quality, then anything you can get at wal-mart,which i might add doesn't even carry the wire harness that he needs. You being a "OWNER" ( i laughed my ass off when you put it that way)of a stereo shop, i would think you would send him to a "Qualified" stereo dealer to get his product.I hope now that you went to www.installer.com you see that what i am saying is correct..The typical wire harness does not come into play when dealing with most newer or tuners that are located in the trunks of Cadillacs.Your type of business ettique reminds me of a stereo shop here in my local town..I will mention the name only because they suck Park Audio and Video. I called them to see if they had the harness that i needed..I talked to a "Certified Installer" and he says that there is no harness for that and it would have to be re wired to make it work..to add insult to ignorance he also stated that it would cost much more then a typical deck install. The point to that is..you and park audio are the same...You have no knowledge of what your saying and are flying by the seat of your pants in hopes you don't find a person like me that knows something before they even walk into the door..You treat others as if you know more then them and you can talk them into just about anything and gain a few bucks at there expense.I realize business is business, but there is a fine line there...when you cross over that line and give ppl faulty or misleading information..you have become no better then the crooks that are in jail..
Now on to a more peaceful side of this conversation. This is not a personnel attack on you Mike, sorry that you feel that way. we can get along and try and help others out that have a problem.my biggest gripe is ppl that are only grasping at straws or those that heard this once or heard that..I mean shit.we are here to help others not give them bad info..There is nothing more i hate that getting info from one person to only find out it is wrong, then start over again from scratch. Most of the replies on here are from ppl that only give general knowledge..For instance...I have been having problems with my caddi.overheating issues..the motor only has 42,000 miles on it( and it's a 1993 !!!).Ppl are telling me that my water pump is bad to my thermostat...all general issues..but none have worked..I finally found out the problem..i think..I will post some other time when i know exactly if that was the problem or not..anyway getting back to the issue at hand..It's not that i don't agree with you,,,its that i know what your telling them is wrong and you aswell as them should be informed correctly. Anyway, hope your place does well...This is my last post to this issue because i am sure that Danny has the right info and no need go any further with it..I hope you have learned a bit from this too aswell Mikey...

Well Danny Lives in Israel and i doubt he would want to pay the shipping cost from Houston Texas to where he lives overseas ;) So i doubt seriously the information you gave him was much help > Not to mention your View on me or my business, I am not on here trying to "Sell anyone" or for that matter convince anyone of anything, just putting in my 2 cents, Sorry your little towns car audio shop couldn't please you either but from what i have gathered from you, there probably isn't any pleasing you no matter what, I have been in business long enough to know how to treat my customers, i am honest and alway's looking out for their best interest and i am Very Competitive with my prices :) Sounds like you have been burned more than once in the past and i feel your pain, and yes it does happen alot in this business. The competition is cut throat and very aggressive and "They" Including the Big Corporations>will say anything to hurt other business owners. It usually backfires on them though, people aren't stupid and hearing is believing when it comes to car audio products and the service end of the business is Vital. You can go to ten different shops and get ten different opinions and answeres to your questions. Your quite wrong about me, you have never met me in person nor have you done any business with my company so unless that day comes i will have to say i don't Value your opinion. Best of luck with your car and your stereo system.

hey greencaddy..What is it your trying to do with your stereo system? Are you wanting to replace the whole system with new amps? Or just the deck?..If your wanting to just change the head unit then there is no need to re-wire the whole system. In my other posts you can go to www.installer.com to get every thing that you should need ( about 1 1/2 hours if you know what your doing) so you could then do it yourself. there is no listing for the particular wire harness, they do show a listing for 94-95 Deville. The part number for the harness is 70-1857..They also have the dash kit which is part number 99-2004..which is listed for 96-99 Devilles..All of the mentioned would be cheaper for you to do yourself then take it to a shop and have them rewire the whole system...If you have to rewire the whole system because you want to add front and rear amps, expect alot of money being dished out.I think that a "typical" deck install at most shops is around 35-50 dollars..The ppl at installer.com get alot of there products from www.metraonline.com however metra does not sell to the public. You could go to an affiliate and order,or if they have it in stock purchase that wire harness. The biggest affiliate that i know of is Circuit City.Tell them the part number and they can order it for you.More then likely at a cheaper price then installer.com but don't quote me on that.Another option is to, if possible, purchase your head unit at circuit city which has free installs on every thing they sell you will only have to purchase parts. Again this is only a guide as i am not sure what you want to do with the whole system.Just reply with what you are wanting to do so we can get you more indepth information.

While they have alot of stuff at

http://www.installer.com/

They don't have a kit for my 92 FWD deville.

Neither does Walmart of Pep Boys (at least in stock)

Neither does this place

http://www.audioonlineoutlet.com/cadillac.html

This one allegedly works

http://www.valcoelectronics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VE&Product_Code=1503

These guys claim to have it too:

http://www.caraudioexpert.com/productView3.asp?productID=2092

I guess what I'm saying is there's no right answer and no end all, be all source for parts:)

Man, I'm glad we have such knowledgable guys on here! I just bought a 2001 Deville. It was a lease vehicle so I'm suspect it doesn't have the "Bose" package. What I would like to do here is keep the Stock stereo, and add a 10" sub woofer and amp into the mix. Maybe even upgrade the stock speakers. How different was the Non-Bose systems compared to the AC/Delco units? Does it change how complicated the wiring is. I mean they both have factory amps right? Is it feasable to use the factory head unit, and add better speakers and add an amp or two, or does this create too many problems to be cost effective. I wanted to keep the stock head unit because I didn't want to tempt the criminal element that is omni-present in our area, but I do want crisp clean sound, and some bass. Please advise if this is do-able or not. If I must buy a new head unit, I will, but it is not my preference as that would defeat the illusion I am trying to create. I mean what stereo crook would wate their time on a stock stereo right? I know.....it happens, but not as much as great looking head units.

with a bose system you have to rewire the cars audio its not that expenisve you just have to replace the wireing that goes to the factory speakers to bypass the internal amp. also your wiring harnes question crutchfield.com sell a wiring harness to you when you buy a radio from them but their stuf isnt always cheap. your other option is ebay they sell indash kits the will fit your car no problem also if you decide to wire the whole system up get a 4 channel fron the frnt/rear and a seperate for the subs. your other option to wiring the radio is to splie the factory harness into the new radio . its the easy but complicated way just make sure you do one wire at a time. but if you do the reiwre option you have to only splice 5 wires power, memory wire, ground antenna and lumination. on my cadillac i rewired the whole radio and just used the wires i specifed periously, and ran all the speakers wire to the trunk whree i have 3 amps. good luck.

Wal-Mart carries dash kits that fit eldos, devilles, sevilles, whatever. They also have one with a fake wood grain look. Did one on my buddies 94 Deville, looks delicious. I'll have to take pictures next time he's around.
