The driver's side mirror on my '98 ETC has a few water spots that I can't seem to get rid of. I can run my fingernail across them and feel a (very) slight edge, so I'm afraid that the glass is etched. I've read about numerous glass cleaners that are supposed to remove water spots from windshields, but are those equally safe for mirrors? It's really just a piece of glass with a reflective surface behind it.

I've tried bug and tar remover, fine steel wool, and Bon Ami, but nothing seems to help. Most of my other cars have similar spots which don't bother me, but the yellow tint on this mirror makes visibility at night pretty difficult.

A good clay bar, as always I suggest Maguire's, also a product you can find almost anywhere...Colonel Brassy. It is a metal polish so you don't want to use it strait, but dilute it with some glass cleaner and use a small wax polish pad, just work it around a bit. That's what worked for me at the detail shop I worked at.
