Could you guys tell me how to do this? I don't even see where to start..

My turn signal has been broke for a year now. I got it "fixed" yesterday, but it broke again after about 30 minutes. The mechanic had fixed it to the point that the turn signals worked but the high beams did not. He said something about needing a metal piece in the back of the switch.

When he finished the repair it was hard to switch the signal between left and right flashers and eventually it snapped. I kinda knew it wasn't fixed because the turn signal isn't supposed to feel that stiff.

If you guys tell me how to remove the steering wheel, then I can go to Pick a Part and remove the parts I need and have the mechanic install them. The guy at the wrecking yard wanted to sell me the whole column but then I'd have to switch the ignition and get new keys, right?

I also need to know how to remove the air bag. I had to remove the fuse to the horn since it kept beeping on its own. Come to find out, my air bag is faulty.

Don't buy used parts for that. New are cheap. You take off the bag with screws from the back, then unplug the bag and horn. Then you need a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off. I'll find you another thread with the pics...

This is how to replace the stalk

This is the turn signal switch:

Note that if the only problem is that it won't cancel, all you need to replace are the springs:

If the high/low beams don't work it is this switch. However, if the mechanic was screwing around with the turn signal, it is entirely possible that he dislodged the rod that goes from the turn signal stalk to the dimmer switch.

All parts are available from any parts store.

I just went ahead and bought the whole column;

The guy gave me a really good deal; the column, which has the lever (retail $150), and the air bag (don't know retail), plus the brake light fixture I needed in the rear window for $150 total.

I needed this whole lever and all the insides;

since mine is cracked and broken up.

He didn't have the key so the steering wheel is locked, but my mechanic said he could break it down without the key. Maybe I'll get my mechanic to show me how it's all done and do it on my own next time..

Also, what causes the red needle to move when you place the car in Park, Drive, Neutral, etc? Whatever it is, mine doesn't move. The needle just stays at the Park position.

On my wagon, the needle is controlled by a little dinky piece of rope with a metal tab on it that moves the needle. Mine is misadjusted right now from when the column was pulled 2 months ago, still. lol

Also be prepared to remove a whole host of screws :lol: I lost count after 20 or so. There's a lot down there for all the panels under the wheel (I assume for sound deadening, or maybe leg protection in a crash? I don't know but they were annoying).

Ahhh. I figured you taught shop since I remember you saying you did your T56 swap in the school shop and Nick almost burnt the place down. :lol: :lol:

This is true. Without the forum(s) I'd be lost in a sea of stuff. That's why I support though. If *************** had a support setup I'd do it there too.
