I want to remove the front seats from my 2005 Escalade ESV Platinum so that I can disassemble the center console and install some electrical accessories.

I can't get the bolts off, though. I thought the fastener was an eternal Torx, but none of the external Torx sockets I have fit it. (I thougght it was an E18, but neither my E18 or E20 fit.)

What kind of socket can I use to remove the specialty nut off the stud on the front seat rails?

do don't have to remove the seats to remove the console there is four screws two on each side by the seats,
four on the back,
four in the cubby below the mat don't forget to take out the five screws on the lid
2 screws behind the cd changer before you remove the console you will need to remove the dash bezel and the one around the cd changer along with removing the cup holders just make sure you disconnect the plugs for the power outlets before lifting the console if it don't come out check for screws that you may have missed as there is a hidden screw i just forgot where.

Nope, the seats have to come out. What you're describing is removing the bins, not the whole console. With the seats in position, I can't remove the screws that anchor the console to the drive line hump. (The manual agrees with me on this.)

I still need to know what kind of socket to use on the seat rail bolts.

Well explain how come I have seen those steps on three different forums if you don't believe me do a google search on it and you will get te same results and no I don't have a service manual and I got the whole console out of my truck without removing the seats.
