Reliability

We are thinking about buying a XT4. What is the reliability of this SUV? Who has had warranty work and what did it entail?

We've owned our 2019 XT4 since new, and have had only a couple minor issues with it. One, the piping on the driver seat bottom cushion began to crack in numerous spots. This was fixed under warranty with a bottom cover replacement. Two, the brakes squeak. This is related to the pads, I understand, and is a common complaint. No other issues.

The car is pleasant to drive, gets good mileage, is easy to get in and out of, and has lots of room for parcels and groceries. My wife uses it to run around town and go to work. She is very happy with it. I enjoy driving it, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Its a well designed, comfortable car.

And with regard to the "underpowered" comments, which seem very common on internet forums, I always wonder, how much power would be considered adequate (or appropriate) in a car this size?

The BMW X1 makes 228 HP. The Mercedes GLA makes 221 HP. The Audi Q5 makes 261 HP. And the Lexus NX makes 203 HP. So the Cadillac's 237 HP is squarely in the same ballpark as its competitors in the entry level luxury CUV field.

Funny how my old Buick Grand National was considered such a rocket ship back in the day, and it only produced 245 HP!!! How times have changed.

Super nice car.

And perhaps underpowered is the wrong word.

Car And Driver tested the XT4 at 7.8 secs 0-60. My daughter's 2019 Equinox (with a 252 hp 2.0T and 9 spd transmission) is rated to 60 in 6.6 seconds. My wife's 2018 Q5 (also with a 2.0T powerplant) does 0-60 in 6 seconds flat. And the Audi is heavier than the Cadillac. Even the XT5 with the base 2.0T is rated at 7.5 secs 0-60. The GLA? 6.3

Thing is 7.8 seconds to 60 is not awful by any stretch of the imagination. A base RAV4 gets to 60 in 8.5 seconds (which is roughly where you'll find the base Lexus NX) and it wasn't that long ago when sub 7 seconds was aspirational in affordable vehicles. Heck the Grand National was rated at 6.9 seconds (with the GNX much faster) and it was considered very fast for its day. My 2000 Bonneville could only crack 8 seconds on a good day.

So, in many contexts, the XT4 is perfectly fine. I just think that the XT4's rated 237 hp should be able to propel this car faster than it does. I suspect that it's been tuned to tame torque steer (given its FWD architecture) and to provide smoother performance.

I think the XT4 has a lot to commend it and I'd be happy to have one in my driveway TBH.

Hello Forum,
This is my 4th Month with my 2023 XT4 she is a wonderful long trip SUV. It's just me and my wife, we have enjoyed all the luxury items we add to our sport AWD model (dealership recommend 18's for the most comfortable ride). Massage seats, the centerpoint Bose system, and the thing that I feel makes it a comfortable ride, the active sport suspension. I was reading the posts on the forum and noticed that this option is a little underated. Touring Mode (2WD and AWD) is nice. But stay away from speed bumps on Sport mode. You will feel the impact. It's nice for mountain curves. It takes away the roll. I have driven the non active sport suspension XT4's and they have a nice ride with the 18's but not as plush as the active.
Hope to have this car for many years. It's easy to get in and out of. I can't bend well for sedans anymore.

Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone.

Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone.
I appreciated your post. I traded in my 2015 Buick Enclave in September for a 2023 XT4. and after 3 months, I'm happy with it. Surprisingly, the ride isn't as smooth as the Enclave, but I love the size. As a recent widow, I downsized my house - both in size and altitude - and no longer needed a larger, heavier vehicle in Reno winters. Plus I needed something that would fit in a smaller garage. If it was any lower, I might have trouble getting in/out but while it's lower than the Enclave, the XT4 does sit up higher than a sedan. I'm not planning on taking long trips, except maybe the occasional run over the mountain to Sacramento, but it gets great mileage around town, with easy handling and response. Parking a smaller vehicle is great and I love all the cameras and sensors. I mainly use the 2WD and have only needed 4WD twice so far this winter; haven't tried sport mode and this grandma likely won't need it. Thank you again for your summary of your vehicle and Merry Christmas!
