Hi folks, took my 06 Sts to dealer and was quoted $300 to reflash ECM and update software to clear some codes in history. Is there an easy way to DIY this?

If all you need to do is clear some codes just disconnect the battery leads, touch them together for a few minutes, and then reconnect to the battery.

Sounds scary but I did read that somewhere. About how long do you need to touch them together? Does this clear all personal settings(e.g. radio stations)? Just curious because I tried this and code came back, settings remained. Thanks!

About all you would notice is you would have to reprogram the express windows. Touch the leads together for about 1/2 a minute.

So it seems to me that there must be more to this story than just some old codes that need to be cleared. There have been some updates over the years and I'm struggling to understand why a dealership wants to reflash your ECM just to clear codes. My guess is that some of these codes are resolved by an updated calibration.

Perhaps..though another issue I have is condensation in headlight for which I was told the only fix is a $1500 replacement. Needless to say I'll try fixes here first
