There are two coiled black leads on the rear window that provide power for defrosting. They attach by sliding onto metal tabs in the rear window. One of my tabs broke off today. Is there an easy DIY fix, or do I need to take it to a shop?

There are specific repair kits for those electrical tabs. Any decent parts store. Be patient and follow the instructions. You are nowhere near the first to have a popped tab. Happens on all makes/models/years.
Not much different from repairing the windshield rearview mirror glass mount.
Repairing does not work for long. All places near me no longer do them.
Speedy etc no longer do them
I used my insurance, glass break coverage. The windows are around 500 to replace plus labor.
Shine a flashlight at the pad the tab is soldered to. Most times the pad peels off and there is nothing to solder too. If there isn’t much or anything to solder to then you need the back glass replaced
My experience with the loctite and permatex versions were poor - The repairs only lasted for a couple of months. The one that was successful was one from frost fighter. As others stated the best solution is to replace the glass.
I had that issue on a 2013 and had the tap repaired every few months and the glass replaced twice and they still kept falling off. the dealer told me it is a design flaw. Hope you find a permanent solution.
Had to take my Escalade to the dealer for some other warranty work yesterday and inquired about my broken window defroster tab. They are going to cover it under my CPO warranty and replace the entire rear window. Only costing me the $50 deductible, but I'm incredulous that replacing the rear window is the solution. Talk about bad design......
The design is/was probably good. The manufacturer that the glass was contracted from was most likely the problem.
GM didn't make the glass - any of it. It's all sourced from different contractors - many windshields are Canadian-made. Not sure where Safelite (glass repair/replace business) gets their (good) stuff.
