Rear Hatch Not Opening

As the title says, I am having an issue with not being able to open my rear hatch on 2004 SRX. I am new to the car. Is there something I am missing? I pushed the remote unlock 2 times and also 3 times trying to unlock and nothing. It acts as if it is still locked. Any help is appreciated...

Milo - SRX in general doesn't respond like other cars including other Caddy's..so....have you pulled the handle like when you open the drivers door after unlocking with the remote rather than expecting the hatch to pop open?

I hear ya John. Yes, I tried this. When pulling the hatch-handle, it pulls with no 'catch' much like when it is locked... That said, does the drivers door have to be open?? That would be kinda weird!
Has anybody been working on the car lately?

There is a cable that attaches the pull handle to the latch, it may be disconnected or broken.
If so... it can be a real bear to get open but it is do-able.
Have you ever seen it open? Also is the temperature high where you are located. If it is try opening it after dark when its cooler this might help or its broken. The plastic handle likes to flex when hot outside ther have been some owners break handle.:spin: :spin:
You might also try to pull it from the right side of the handle. There is more pull on the handle from the right side.
Yeh we've opened it before. Wife found another thing too: book says to try turning key in drivers door lock counter-clockwise. Tried and no cigar. I think she's broken, so next is a trip to the dealer.... Thanks for all the suggestions though guys!

Had an '04 and it was tough to open unless you pulled, as suggested above, on the right side of the handle. There were leak issues as well with some owners and we opted to not have them fool with the door latch since we knew how to open it.
The hatch is our nighmare. The hatch sticks in hot weather, it's misaligned, it leaks, and its weatherstripping looks like an after thought rather than an integrated design. Besides the hatch, a great suv.
New report:

Weird thing happened on Sunday. Wife and I drove to cooler area for dinner (dropped about 15 degrees..) And guess what.... It opened when I decided to try it again! Must be heat related is all I can figure at this time. Sounds like others have had same experience as well.

You might want to check your rear hatch jack compartment to see if the carpet underneath the jack is wet or damp if you haven't already. IMHO, they all leak. My neighbor just bought a 2004 and his srx leaked. Mine leaked. The only reason more people don't complain is that unless you had a flat and tried to access the spare and jack you would never know unless it started emitting an odor. As I said earlier, the hatches are Achilles heel of the srx.
There is a bulletin on making an adjustment to the guide blocks on the sides of the door that can ease this problem.
Also adjusting the striker for the gate will help there is also a bulletin for that as well.

If your car is still under warranty they are relatively easy adjustments for your dealer to make and it should alleviate this problem.
