We are replacing the rear differential bushing in a 2006 STS. We rented the tool from Creative Steel. The removal was easy but we can not get the new bushing to install all of the way, less than an inch to go. There is not enough room for any hammering or pounding since we are doing the job without removing the differential completely. Any suggestions or recommendations or reasons why it won't go in all of the way would be great!

This is something that I am wanting do do also. Was wondering does the tool also install the bushing? Let’s us know after the installation how the ride goes.

The bushing won't improve the ride, but it will stop the damaging thunk on gear changes between R and D, and letting off the gas and getting back on it. Unless one counts those items as a ride improvement.

Is the new bushing an improved design or will it rear out like the original did?

Poly bushing(s) is the way to go, both Revshift and Creative Steel produce them. Many of the bushings for the CTS/V will fit the STS (not all, but many).
Creative Steel rents out a tool for bushing removal and install.

The bushing would not go in fully because the alignment of the bushing was off a bit. It is a tight space to work in without removing the exhaust completely but doable. The tool removes and installs the bushings. My husband had to use his air ratchet, manually wasn't happening. There is a better bushing available now at a cost of almost $100 and is suppose to last longer, the original design will cost you about $20. Our car now shifts gears without a sound, the occasional thunk while accelerating and breaking is also gone.
