Just wanted to post for anyone that has done or plans to install a tow hitch on their XT6. Finally installed a Curt OEM for 2” receiver hitch on my 2020 XT6 PLP after my bumper to bumper warranty expired.
The issue is that the tow hitch cover is held in place with two 7mm bolts, so when you want to take it off you have to whip out a 7mm nut driver, socket, etc. and unbolt it. From the factory, the tow hitch cover usually has two “quarter-turn” hand/thumbscrew fasteners that are easy to remove on the fly with no tools.
As luck would have it, they sell metal quarter-turn fastener kits on Amazon meant for motorcycles that fit almost perfectly. So I converted my tow cover using one of these kits (there are many that would probably fit, this just happens to be the one I purchased):
The clips were a perfect fit, but I did have to use some pliers to squeeze the clips together as the part of the clip that the fastener screws into was too “deep” and needed to be closer to the panels/fastener so it could reach and latch when you bring the two panels together. Bright side is that it is a nice, tight fit when latched.
Update: The plastic retaining washers they supply aren't that great at holding the quarter-turn bolt to the panel as you are taking it on and off, so I added two 7mm circlips to help ensure they stay attached to the panel when it's not in place and they worked perfectly! Added two photos below.
