It has been happening randomly the last few months. My first thought is weak remote battery. I just replaced it and I'll see if it happens again. This is the first and one of the original remotes to the car. The 2nd remote, the new one that replaced the 2nd original remote works just fine. It has never given that message. It was supplied with the car a year ago when the dealer couldnt find the 2nd original remote.

Maybe someone can explain why when you put the remote in the slot under the armrest next to the driver's seat that it lets you start the car. The remote would lock/unlock/open trunk but would not start the car. I'm hoping a new battery will solve the problem.

I saw a demo where a remote (XTS) with no battery was put into the slot and the car started...don't ask me how, lol.
It does sound like a remote battery issue you are having. If the new battery does not work, try another, and make sure it's inserted with the correct side down and is seated.

I get the "no remote detected" message about every 3 to 4 months, totally at random and totally independent of the remote's battery condition. It just means I have to take the remote out of my pocket, put it 4 inches to the right in the armrest slot, and the car will start fine. I think it falls under the heading of Magic.😄

I replaced the battery and it seems to work just fine. I'll see if I ever get the message again. It was very random when I would get that message. My wife, who drives the car most of the time has never gotten that message.

When you open the console, at the bottom of it towards the front is a little "pocket" where you can insert your fob if it has a weak battery or no battery at all and this will allow the vehicle to start. It was designed so that in case you do have a weak battery or no battery at all, you can still start your vehicle by placing the fob in the pocket. The module that reads the fob is right so there as long as the remote is in very close proximity, it will still start the vehicle. Great design!

It is also used for remote programming as well.
