Random glove box openings

My glove box randomly opens itself.

You can tell it is being commanded to do so, even though my hand is nowhere near the glove box switch. You can hear the latch being activated.

Sometimes, even if left open, you can hear the latch being activated to open it even when it is already open!

I just called Cadillac to see if this is a known issue, they said they have never heard of this before. I Googled around as well, and no hits. Has anyone had this issue? I suppose I should also post this in the General CTS forum, as this may not be specific to the Vsport. But I thought I would start here.

Anyone have any ideas? Some days it does it many times in one short drive to work or back home. Sometimes it will go for days without doing this one time.

The dealer should have some ideas on what to try to resolve this issue, especially if you can reproduce it at the dealer or at least get it on video and let them see it. It could just be a short in the wiring where the mechanism is for the latch or a faulty latch itself for the glove box. Maybe if they replace the latch mechanism this will go away.

Thanks. I think getting it on video is the best bet. Only problem is my bumper to bumper ends on Feb. 22, and it has not done it one time in several days. This may be purely coincidental..... I live in Florida and the only days it has done this has been on the few cool low humidity days we had this winter.

I'd try giving it a good cleaning... Is there a possibility that there could be something (like part of a BigMac or soemthing) on the touch sensor button that is reacting?
I know when I wipe the CUE and A/C controls with a microfibre cloth, all sorts of weird things happen that I wind up having to reset. Strangely, it will even change my dashboard display.

Failing that, the switch probably needs to be replaced. I remember having my hazard light/lane departure buttons replaced shortly after getting the car due to some sort of error the tech found when my car was in for an unrelated recall.

Toronto, I also use a microfiber cloth on my screen but I don't need to clean as often as I use a stylus on my CUE screen so I don't have fingerprints on the screen. It's just a soft rubber ball like stylus about 1/4" in diameter, even has a plastic tether that I'm able to locate & secure on the edge of the screen so I don't lose it.

This may help.

Condition
Some customers may notice that the Hazard Flashers may turn on after vehicle shut down or that the Glove Box may be open when they return to their vehicle. If the Hazard Switch sent the signal and the vehicle was left unattended too long the battery may be dead. Either switch may send a ground signal to the BCM when the vehicle powers down after being turned off. The BCM will see this ground signal as a button press and will actuate which ever controlled device the signal was received on.

Recommendation

Please replace the Hazard Switch and/or Glove Box Switch (depending on customers concern) with a new designed switch.

I have a 2016 XTS and have had the same thing happen twice in the last month, most recently And hour ago. The car did not want to start. I had to push the start button 3 times and hold it down the third time. It finally started, but the hazard lights kept coming on, traction control went off and the glove box kept opening multiple times. Finally stopped and when I got home I was able to turn the car on and off multiple times without issue. Very sgrange.

I know this is a old post but I will put this here incase anyone else has the same issue. My 2013 XTS glovebox was opening on its own. I replaced the actual switch that you press to open it. Problem solved. There is a guy that has a video of the hazard switch being replaced on his XTS. It's the same process only with the glove box switch. Took me about 20min to fix it. The switch was 70ish dollars. There are cheaper ones out there. I just ordered directly from a online gm parts dealer. Give them your vin for the correct part number then do a goggle search to find best price.
