Ran with an M5

I had a BMW 5 (looked like an 02 or 03) on my ass for a while yesterday, eventually we lined up at a red light. I assumed it was a trick 540...Wrong! A trick 540 is a fast car so I made a very hard launch but I didn't shut off my TC, damn was I suprised when that BMW stayed right next to me, I pulled a little until he hit his sweet spot then he pulled a little, then I pulled, then he pulled...

The cars were pretty much dead even, that M5 is a awesome car, what fun! I wish we had more room to really open them up.

The BMW guy was laughing like crazy (so was I) and gave the V the thumbs up.

M5s are sweet cars.... Monsters in their own right.... the one had a run in with was on the freeway... I pulled a car length and then he shut down.
I have run with two or three and I have always pulled them at least a car or two before they shut down. I always turn TC off as well. :sneaky:
Nice work! It's good to see the driver of an M5 can actually laugh and even give a thumbs-up to a Caddy. I think a lot of them would rather chew off their own arm.
there pretty much even it depends on the driver and how good your take off is, well that is 0 to 60 after 75 the V always pulls on the m5
I always give CTS-V drivers a thumbs up when I'm in my M5. The LSx motors are formidable opponents, esp when modded, but stock for stock, its always about driver and traction.

And if I lose, I'll console myself knowing I have a leather covered dashboard. :D

Stock for stock they are about equal. :)
Carl! How goes it? I haven't seen ya since my days on Redshifts c5forum. Hope all is well. I live near Redshift. Copbait tells me he's bumped it off w/ Redshift a few times 05 GTO vs Redshift's slightly modded M5 and says they are a pretty even match. I'd like to run Redshift sometime, but I know he's retired the M5 from duty. Of course I'd only like to see him in a straightline cause his driving skills would make me look like I was driving a Ford Festiva at VIR..LOL

I've even seen JB peek his head in here. I had no idea you were a mod on this board.

Cheers!
Mike
I agree with the doctor, stock M5 vs. stock V it's all about the driver. Heck, put Danica Patrick in a regular CTS and I'll bet she would take out many a driver in their 400 hp CTS V's.

Hi Mike, I am usually on the Escalade section of the board, been here for a while now. Vetteless right now but I have a C6 Z06 on order and should see it around Christmas. I am still a moderator on Brian's site as well. JB is on every site and then some. :)

I love it.:histeric:
Hey, no disrespect intended to all our M5 friends. :grouphug:

It's just that the M5 owners I've run into are usually soooooo serious about their cars they can't unwind (maybe that's because I live up here in "uptight" New England). More than a few M-people have turned their nose up at the V; one even told me Cadillacs are for vacation rent-a-cars, not keeping up with an M-cars. :annoyed:

I'm eagerly looking forward to my first race with an M5, but with my luck that could be a while. The best part of racing an M5 with a V is that whoever loses has nothing to be ashamed of. I've got a healty respect for the M5 and I'll readily admit that their interior blows the V away. Not to mention their resale is significantly more advantageous.

As my handle indicates though, I just wanted to drive a US make for a change. It's nice to see a few M5 guys write in and say nice things. My faith in M-people has been restored :halo:.

Hey had fun with a blue m5 today...

Wow he was driving for his life!

I'd say end of 3rd gear about even, 4th though pulling badly...

Got to say I was impressed what he was willing to do with that overpriced turkey.
What's the difference between a porcupine and BMW?

A porcupine has the pr-cks on the outside. :histeric:

I've killed two M5's in the 10 month's I've owned the V. However, both runs were on the freeway. The first kill was with the M5 hammering it in front of me. He had a couple of car lengths on me until I dropped in the right gear. After that, ADIOS!

About 2 weeks ago on my way home, I was on the phone talking to the mrs. All of a sudden this black on black with tinted windows like my car, M5, shows up downshifting. I was like, "OH SHIT!" The wife says, "what's going on?" I told her, "I have to call you back. Someone is looking for trouble." I get myself ready in 3rd going about 70mph. I give him a little taste, he bites. That one gear was all he wanted. I had him by almost 3 car lengths. All I said was, "Vaya con Dios."

M5 owners, nothing but love from the "Black Pearl." :highfive:
I've encountered many M5s at the 25 or so track days I've done. The V will pull on the M5s on straightaways. The M5 is a little better on the twisties. Bottom line is that for most road courses, it will come down to the skill of the driver.
And when you've modded your skill level, it will transfer to every car you ever drive. Beating cars in the twisties/track/autox with something that shouldn't is an amazing feeling that cannot be compared....I spanked a BMW Z8, twice, at an autox. Poor guy, he couldn't believe it. And think, if he chooses to invest in a race school it will do so much better than the therapist...
"Doctor, I'm having nightmares of a big black car...and in the dream my mother is laughing at me from the passenger's seat".....

Actually, they don't...just very nice vinyl. The M5 interior is in a different league, as it should be for over $70k.
Never, EVER get in your car without getting into Competition Mode... you never know...
