Last night a bunch of us went to Turning Stone Casino to gamble and I had to fill up before we left. I put it in a tank of 89 and to my surprise there was no knocking or loss of gas mileage as I had experienced before. I don't think I am going to tempt fate and do this regularly but I did think it was interesting. BTW, I put on 230 miles and got 15.1 mpg, pretty normal highway #s for me.

I put 87 for the first time a couple weeks ago, the perfomance was different. I also got some knocking when stepping on the gas. I was able to notice a difference on driving with 87 than 92

I've run 87, 89, and 93 in my 99 and found it best when it 89 in it (mpg, idle).

But, I wont run anything less than 93 in my new baby. :cool2:

I run 87 in my 2000 and over the last weekend got 20.1 on the open road....but still getting 13 around the block

I had been running 93 until the prices went through the roof, then I started 87 after about the second full tank it started pinging with moderate throttle under a load. I topped off twice with 89 and 93 and it seems to have gone away. I think I may stay somewhere in the middle alternating tanks when ther is about a 40 cent diff between reg and premium, lower than that its a wash.

You may not have problems with one tank full of 89 octane, you still had gas in the tank, probably several gallons, so you may have had 91 octane if you have been ruinning high test, the cooler weather helps against knocking too, and since the Escalade in 03' only needs 91 octane, and I "think" the 02's only needed 89 octane, less compression and hp than the 03's you would probably be fine.

Actually, they "recommend" 91 for the 02's but require at least 87. I always run 87 with no problems. I have never felt any power loss or noticed any difference in fuel economy.

That is true. I was told you can use the cheap stuff up here, but if I was to go down to sea level to only use premium.

I tried 89 for 2 tankfuls, after a loss of power and pinging I found it wasn't worth the extra three dollars saved to make so much sacrifice...

ihave a2000 lade 5.7 i use 87 around town i only get 11around town no knocks
but in chi-town we have to use formulated gas i think i would get better milage.

I wouldn't know if there's a difference between 87, 89, or 91 in my 03 lade.....all I've ever run is 87.

You'll just make sacrifices in power and gas mileage, thats all. If you always run 87 you'll just be used to it running that way. Kinda like owning a new Tahoe- Its nice and comfy and all, but when you get into a Lade you see what you've been missing.

9:1 compression (and lower) engines probably won't see much difference by using premium fuel. With the 10:1 compression engine in the Escalade, you'll notice the engine will run smoother (at least it won't knock or ping) when you use premium.

I filled up today with 89 octane. It will be interesting to see if there's any difference in ride quality or mileage....as claimed. Admittedly the engine does knock a little with 87.

I always run the highest octane. You know the old adage "Take of your car or it will take care of you" I hate paying almost $70.00 dollars to fill up. I think I would hate to have to take my truck to the Caddy dealer even more though :yup:
