Hi everyone, i've a question about radio system upgrade. After destroyed my 05 sts 4.6 v8 in road accident , now i search for an srx . I found an 08 srx 3.6 v6 with standard radio. No navigation system. Is possible to instal a navigation unit or not? . tech2 is required ? ANTI THEFT CODE ? Can i use a Navigation unit from usa? Radio frequency step is the same or not ? Thanks

If I was in your shoes, I’d go with an aftermarket unit versus OEM. Lots more functionality than anything that originally came from the factory. There’s also a thread about retaining factory chimes if you go this route.

I have been doing some digging on this subject also. I got a printout from Best Buy with the parts needed, and it seems that the install is not too bad. If I undergo this upgrade, I will certainly share. I would also like to hear from someone else who has done this to share their wisdom and experiences. Will share the printout when I find it...

Here is a link to the Metra website, which seems to have a definitive list of all harnesses required to maintain chimes and steering wheel controls. Will be calling them to see if I can get more information, as some of the items say for vehicles without NAV, which I have in mine.

http://metraonline.com/vfgapi/vehicle/74643?

Does anyone have any knowledge as to what the harnesses in this kit do? Are they all necessary?

Hi guys thanks for answers and sorry for delay, but at the end i bought a 2008 srx with navigation system oem. Full optional 3.6 V6, whit double fuel injection , petrol and lpg . First driving impression after a life of sedan it was" o my god , what is this? A van ? My 2005 sts v8 was more low with mrc suspension , 18 inch rims low profile tires and brembo calipers . Another driving style, but i like this . Is very comfortable

Despite what all the documentation from Metra and others say, any harness that bypasses the factory amp will *eliminate* the turn signals and the chimes. That's because those sounds are generated by the Bose amp.

You can always just replace the headunit and keep the factory amp and speakers but honestly the headunit audio isnt the weak link in this system. The amp and speakers is.

If you want to maintain chimes and use all aftermarket gear, just leave the factory amp hooked up and run a separate speaker to the drivers side front factory speaker connection to generate the chimes.

Good luck
