Radio/nav not booting

New to the forums and now a "proud" owner of an 07 sts v. bought it off a guy who just did not show it the respect it needed. So Im now in the process of fixing it up.
I replaced the battery yesterday and when I went to start it up the sts logo on the screen just cycles, and on the dic it is in Japanese. I havent had a chance to really mess with it other than disconnecting battery and checking the fuses. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Im hoping this is just a simple/cheap fix since i already have a to do list a mile long for this thing.

Thanks! There wasnt anything in there but i pressed it anyways. Still nothing
also a note, when i hit the navigation hard button the insert map cd appears (none of the other hard buttons for the radio work). I can navigate back from the touch screen, but i still cant access radio/vehicle settings(the screen is void of all options). nothing but static through speakers
Worst case scenario what would I need to replace since the screen and the nav works? What controls the dic?
Same kind of symptoms like I am having? Before I bought the car I did some research and heard that they were a problem but didn't think to much about it since it was working at the time. If it is anything like the one on my charger that cost $3800 it's not going to happen. I will just have to learn Japanese and ride around without music for a while. This thing is a money pit already
Yeah it looks like I'm going to just buy a new one. Sad day
You might be able to reflash the firmware as you have an 07 model and there was a firmware update for the radio.

Where are you located? (I have a tech2 and a copy of the firmware discs)
Might save you from buying a new one.

Also if you decide to get one from eBay make sure you get the correct part number. You can use the STS or STS-V nav unit (they are the same) but the steering wheel controls changed in 2008 so you'll need to get the right nav unit for the controls to work properly.
That would be awesome and i appreciate the gesture, but I live in Texas lol

If you just want music you can plug into the ports in yourbglive box. I have an old zune that connects up easily
So What your saying is that the AV ports should still work?
About a year ago or so someone was selling new old stock on ebay for $350.00 each in the carton. Look around and wait a while if you can. Many of these parts are coming on the market as these cars are no longer in production.

Since it says he has 3, it is likely new as stated. Press him before you buy. If it is in fact new and a pull, you could still get it reprogrammed.

yep ive been looking around. Stealership told me 2400 for a refurbished one including core turn in with only 12 months warranty...I think not. almost as bad as my 8"uconnect on my charger

GM number on mine is: 15939015
Well we are done here. After getting the quote from the dealership for a refurbished head unit I decided to just give it one more go and disconnect the nav/radio from the harness for a couple of hours. When i plugged it back in it booted up fine. Note i tried this before but only left it disconnected for 10 minutes and it did not work, so leave it disconnected for a bit so it will reset.
Thanks for the feedback on this subject, for the first time posting here I feel like this will a good place to come back to for future questions/feedback.

I probably would of had a meltdown if I had to spend the money on another one. This thing has just been one thing after another and I've only had it for a few weeks. I bought it as a project but if things keep up I will never make it to my original list of things to do lol
