Do people have these? I cannot live without mine, its always in me briefcase or backpack whenever i travel. I use a Escort passport 8500. I was looking to getting an excort professionaly installed, but all the shops insist on K40s. I have also heard that a valentine 2 is coming out soon. Does anyone have one installed and how much do you like them? I have gotten out of hundreds of tickets with my buddy.

I have a question. I always want one, but don't know if I should because the laser the cops aim at you is such a narrow beam, right? I don't understand because when the cops hit you with it, don't they have you? I mean do you really get any kind of warning, or by then is it too late?

It seems like I've always had one, but now I'm not so sure that I need it. I rarely drive more than 10 mph over the limit, and usually I'm within 5-7 mph which is tolerated around here.

Mine has a compass on it, which is kinda nice. It works really well, but again, I'm rarely speeding when it goes off. I developed a sixth sense for radar on my own. Haven't had a ticket since 1985.

Well their are several types of radar, the important thing to know is that basically if you get hit with laser (the rarest type of radar that is super hard to work, super expensive and doesnt work in the rain) its is basically a given that he has you, only once has my detector picked it up in enough time cause it bounced off someone else. But all the other kinds you pick up up to 3 miles away. And the closer you get the stronger the pulse so you know when to slow down. They really do work!

My detector has saved me many times, from radar. I havent gotten hit w/lasar for a couple of years. Since my last ticket. Once the lasar det. goes off your usually toast. They got you.
Check out my sig. my Bell is mounted next to the mirror, out of sight & always on.

I have found that a radar detector is almost worthless in my all-freeway daily commuting -- too many falses, too many targets, and not many opportunities to be really stupid-fast anyway.

However, it has allowed me to travel at reasonable speeds on trips without many surprises. It has alerted me dozens of times to the presence of LEOs that I may not have seen otherwise.

It's true that a determined agency with the latest and greatest equipment and the most opportunistic vector are going to pop you and a detector won't give you much (if any) warning.

But it's also true that a great many agencies fall short of those ambitions. I've put close to 50,000 miles on my Corvette in two years, nearly half of them on pleasure excursions covering twelve states. I've never been laser-tagged, and 90% of the radar was either always-on or so frequently fired it may as well have been.

Most enforcement still seems focused on those without radar detection (or those who ignore their detectors). Get a good detector, learn how it works, and listen to it, and you'll get fewer tickets.

About 3 years ago, I came across an auction on eBay for "Cadar." It was a radar detector made by Vogue Tyre in the early 90s specifically for Cadillacs. It fitted where you would put the garage door opener.

Just thought I'd share that....

Goto www.radarjammers.com . They will hook you up with a laser/radar dectector and jammer (only ones that are legal, they explain everything on the site). They even will pay for your speeding tickets for a year!!!

K40's are the best to get it you don't want a ticket.

Check this site out: www.k40.com.

They are a bit pricey, but are by far the best to get. When your radar detection system has to get professionally installed, you know it's good.

My radar detector has saved me many times, gives you a nice warning when a gun is being used don the road. But like explain the best applications are the jammer which scramble the signal, they run around $300.

They are more expensive, but you can easy spend 300 on a good detector only. IMO, if your going to spend that kind of money, might as well get a jammer instead of just a detector.

Ive heard that Jammers are a waste of money, just get yourself a V1 and be done with it. My buddy has one, and others have escorts etc...he picks up cops about 10 seconds before everyone else...and in every direction too :)

I followed a Vette up I-75 fron Cinnci to the MI line. I noticed he had a valentine det. when he passed me. His would go off a couple of seconds before mine(Bel) would. I cant see the difference in performance for the diff. in price. His was sitting on the dash and mine was at the top of the windshield so that probably made some difference.
I like to think I'm thrifty, not cheap.

I have a Cobra (Uniden) laser/radar detector that I've been running for close to 10 years...........maybe longer.....whenever they first came out with laser.....? Anyways, it has worked great for me but is starting to show its age. I have to play with the switch to get the sound to work.
I'm gunna look real hard at the Valentine One when I'm ready for a new one, which will probably be in the next few months.
Most of the Ohio Highway Patrol run laser as well as many of the local departments.

OK. There will not be a 'Valentine 2' coming out soon. I don't know why people keep thinking that because it has a one in the name, that a two is coming.

The Valentine 2 will be available the same day that the Formula 2 season starts.

My advice is to not buy a cheap radar detector....too many false alarms, and this will make you think they are all that way.

I now have a Solo2, and it works fine, plus has some neat featues like a radar detector detector detector........no, this is not a mis print.
I live in the peoples republic of Virginia, the only state where they are still not legal.
