If you are looking at buying a radar detector, you should really consider buying laser diffusers instead. I have had the for a few years and have never gotten pulled over. I just installed a new set of blinder jammers on my 2007 escalade. If you are interested. I am turning in one of my other leases and removing the diffuser and was going to put on e-bay. They are extremely easy to install and I have directions. They new set I just bought retailed for $670. The ones I am selling are 1 1/2 years old and looking to get $150 for them. Police are only using lasers now and these scramble there beam and warn you of threat. The company goes as far as guaranteeing no speeding tickets or they will pay them for the first year. These do not go off around stores and other security systems like most radar detectors. These are very hidden and discrete. You do not have something stuck to the windsheild that can fall off and tempt theives. The only thing in the cabin of the truck is a toggle switch and a LED light. Let me know if interested. I use the Passport 8500 for the past couple of years. Never had any problems with it, it has definately paid itself. From what I hear, the valentine 1 is the best out there though.

Radar Detectors are wortheless.. To be very honest any radar detector will help for a situation where an officer is running radar, however being a guy who is going into the field of police and know alot of cops be aware that a cop does not need radar to give you a ticket.. they are trained to be able to look at a car and figure the speed based on that and if they want to make sure it sticks they just give you a wreckless driving ticket.. so really you have no way out.. doesnt matter how much you spend on a radar unit.. they will still nail you to the wall if they want to.. best advice ever given is be polite...

Sorry but that's the biggest crock of bull I've ever heard. Anymore the primary function of a cop is to produce revenue for their respective municipality, town cops are the worst, state boys are a little better, albeit marginally. I've been pulled over three times in my life... all by local cops with absolutely nothing better to do with their time. All they care about it quotas, ever wonder why you see more people pulled over toward the end of a month. I have all the respect in the world for the few good ones out there but they are becoming a rare breed as a lot of them have their own agendas. The local cops where I live were the absolute worst up until last year. After much petitioning and debate we got our municipality to adopt the same qualifications and screening process for our town cops that the state uses for the troopers. If an individual couldn't pass the state trooper's exam why on earth would I want them patrolling the 1.5 square miles of my hometown? We also had the force eliminated by 1/3... there were 18 officers for a town of 4,000 even though the state police barracks are only two miles from the center of town. Our taxes are some of the highest in the area and they wanted to raise them even more mainly because they wanted more for the police budget. Sorry... I'm a quality over quantity kind of guy.

I agree, be polite. Turn off the ignition and place keys on dash. This tells the officer you are not a drive off risk. Before getting the registration out of the glove box, ask if it is allright for you to reach in there to get it. Call them "officer". Yes "officer", "no officer", "thank you officer".

I have been pulled over twice for speeding in the last 10 or so years. Worked both times. First offense 67 in a 50 out in the country. Second, 48 in a 35. Not even a warning, and the second time I admittedly was speeding and passed a light that had just turned from amber to red. I deserved tickets in both cases but did not get them. Different towns for each as well. If I was not polite, trust me, I would have gotten tickets in both. Oh yeah, light tinted front windows in each case as well - no ticket for that either.

While it may not save you from every ticket, if you choose not to be polite, it will virtually guarantee you a ticket every time. :thepan:
