i got a radar detector and plug it into my lighter. but it stays on when i shut the car off. anyone know how to wire the ligter so it comes on and goes off with the ignition?

Wire the detector into a differant circuit. I don't think it will overload anything since it doesn't seem like a high power use device, but if it does wire in a new circuit controlled by a relay on an accessory circuit.

oh, so cut it the attachment for the lighter isnt on there? and just ook it up with some other wires?

I just plug mine in and unplug it each time... really isn't a big deal anymore.

Otherwise you'll have to hard wire it into the circuit for the stereo or something.

my old detector had an on/off switch

hard wire to switched power lines or put a switch in yourself. (not too hard to reach behind there and splice in a toggle switch. (I had one long time ago)

That's pretty much your only option other than turning it on and off manually.
