I just picked up my new '07 V yesterday. I have an escort radar dector w/the remote button on the cig lighter insert. My problem is that the insert sticks out too far and interferes w/my hand on the shit knob for 3rd and 5th.

What are you guys doing for a radar setup?

Mine was stolen not too long ago, so I don't have that problem anymore.

Overhead light is the way to go. Easy and trouble-free.
except for one thing.... i've read, and its been my experience, that a radar detector works best if low down in the windshield, not up at the top. That said, the OP can certainly solve the problem with a short shifter. I'm going to get the wired in option for my RX65 and I'll likely mount the remote piece on the top of the steering column.

Absolutely not. The V1 works best higher up on the windshield. The learer the path forward and to the rear is best. I have my V1 mounted just under the rearview mirror.

They used blow torches and the jaws of life. For real I went to go out for lunch, backed out of my spot and realized just the suction cups and the carrier were on the windshield not my V1. They also left the power cord on the seat. Idiots. Atleast no damage to the car.

Mine may not be in the ideal spot, but it's nice and tucked away in the corner of the dash.

Not only does it look nice there, but it's also "hidden" in case any John Q laws decide to pull me over. In terms of performance, it seems to work fine there.

Some believe that when you have it in plain site, say on the mirror, it increases the chances that you can get a ticket from the police

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I did a search and read the faq before posting. I was looking to see if anyone has used the remote smart cord. I like the idea of tapping into the dome light, but really like the idea of having the remote control w/lights and mute button - especially for night driving.

I realized sitting in trukk's V the other week that the rear view mirrors changed from '04 to '05. Anyway, on my V at least, the center of the mirror drops down for the buttons. I have the V1 offset so that the rear sensor has a clear view, but you can't see the display from behind the car. But from the driver's seat, you can see the display just fine.

Welcome to the club!

It was hardwired to the circuit that provides power for the sunroof, which is on RAP (retained accessory power). I have since purchased another 8500 X50 and hardwired into a similar location on the STS.

Dang man. I hope the guy that did that has his dick rot off.

As for mounting radar detectors, I'd recommend tapping into the wiring harness BEFORE the console. Use T-splice connectors. It's spelled out as an alternate method in the FAQ. Takes all of 10 minutes. That's what I did with my beltronic unit.

I would have expected that for a V1, but that was for an Escort?
