Hey guys I had a question on the 05 V!

Noticed the the passenger airbag light would stay off when someone else would get in the passenger seat and the service airbag light on the DIC would stay on but then a second or two later it would all go out. Now today it is on solid. Scanned with my efi live and I am having the B0092 code.

Did some searching and everything seems to point to the passenger presence sensor. Does anyone know what the part number is for this item. Already tried disconnecting the battery and checking all the plug in's and wires. Everything seems to be ok. I would like to get this fixed right away.

Would like to just order it and pull the seat in the garage and replace the sensor. Sounds like this has been a common problem and I know that there was a recall but it sounded like the recall wasn't covered for every one. Besides I dont trust any dealers around this area anyways.

Hmmm sounds like I will call them tomorrow and see if mine will fall under this recall. If it is something else I will service it myself at my own shop. Would be nice to not have to purchase the sensor if they will cover it.

Thanks Darkman!

Yep... common issue. Had mine replaced under CPO warranty. Then had to attach the seat bottom correctly since they tech didn't clip it under the front of the seat.

Dealers...

I know I have access to the tech II for personal use.

You end up doing a calibration of each of the six areas of the PPS for weight basically.

According to my shopkey it is basically showing you scan it to see if it is throwing codes for any of the six areas but other then that it will recognize the new pps and talk with it.

----------

Well called the dealer to confirm of the recall. They say never heard of it and nothing covered there but they have another special policy "10 years or 120k" for a passenger presence module. Now I thought the sensor was different then the module? they say 100355 does not exist. Nice

----------

This is almost comical with them LOL

Ok so the recall is 10355 not 100355 and only certain vehicles were affected and apparently mine is not of course lol

They do want to replace the Passenger presence module though under this extended coverage. Seems like two different things to me.

Spoke with Luke over at Lindsay (very knowledgeable guy!) and apparently the module and seat sensor are all in one as a unit so it looks like they will be replacing the whole thing anyways. Thanks Luke for your time!

Ok one more thing for the DIY'ers the correct part number you want to order is 19124391 (retails for about 188 bucks through gmdirect) this is the module and sensor assy. The part number for the discriminating sensor is an old number and not the updated design. They dealer that wants the work would not give me this number but since I have other contacts at GM (I was a gm tech for a number of years at a dealer) I was able to get it.

Just thought people would want to know.

I still am deciding if I am just going to change it myself since I have seen the work of dealers and their practices before when I was working there. One of the reasons I left!

----------

Well suit yourself, but if that airbag fails to deploy in a crash I would want it to be someone else's liability.
Do you really think that GM would ever claim liability for something like that anyway Darkman? You would be fighting an uphill battle trying to get them to admit any fault for anything!

I think he meant that you didn't get it fixed (by a dealer), knew of the issue, and then therefore assume liability of a potential non-diployment.
JDB got my point - in the event of a crash with no air bag deployment the lawyers in a law suit will generally go after the automobile manufacturer unless it is discovered that: (1) the owner ignored a warning that the system was not functional; or (2) the owner was the last one to work on it. In either case, the owner's name goes to the top of the lawyer's list.

I understand where you are coming from now. But the same could be said for just about anything if that is what concerns you. Performing your own brake jobs, changing your own oil or mechanical repairs on the motor, suspension work. Just about anything touched on the car by a DIY'er if that is the case could be a potential lawsuit.

I don't mean to come across wrong at all, but the right lawyers will find a problem no matter what happens lol

I do understand where you are coming from though. If you can turn the blow torch away from you then by all means!

Well, I don't think do-it-yourself work in general is subject to the same the legal risk as for an issue related to government required safety equipment that has been subjected to a NHTSA recall.
