Does anyone know the technical purposes of the 180 degree return bend on the downside of the inlet air tube and the 2 appendages on the top side? Looks like a well engineered, technical piece of equipment. Its configured the way it is for reasons ---

At the first Lindsay V Day at Summitt Point GM had trailered in a couple of mules, drivers and engineers. i asked the same question and the engineer stated they were 1/4 wave harmonic filters to filter out annoying supercharger whine.

What's so annoying about supercharger whine?

Rocketeer,
Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, the supercharger whine does sound good, but ours is a Caddie and some might expect some show of refinement (smile).

Oil impregnated air filter. Oil helps catch more dirt particles.

Nope. Don't think so...

IIRC, the factory filter on the 2009 CTS-V is dry paper. I'm not going to run right out and check on mine right away, but I will look in the next day or two. Pretty sure it's paper.

If I am not mistaken the oil catch tube is for excess oil gathered from the crankcase breather system and routed as vapor to the intake system so it can ostensibly be burned with the intake charge.

That sounds logical to me. I did hear the upper bends were for noise reduction

They are all induction tuners - placement was dictated by space available. 2 short ones are 1/4 wave. Longer u-shaped is a Helmholtz or 1/2 wave tuner.

actually that goofy "u" tube on the bottom is supposed to collect oil ...kinda like a catch can setup. Atleast thats what Jesse/wait4me told me
I sure hope Jesse wasn't serious if he really did suggest it's for catching oil. :alchi:
