So, I thought of this after writing my latest blog post:

http://autowaffle.com/tesla-model-s-convertible-the-question-100-people-asked/

What do you think the best (and worst) aftermarket convertible jobs are? I've seen some sketchy ones in my day, including Cadillacs like 90s Eldorados and 90s Fleetwood Broughams, but what else do you think? Do you think any of these actually enhance the appearance of the cars they convert? If so, which?

Although I think that this car is otherwise an okay custom, it appears to be another ugly convertible from the good people at Newport in Los Angeles. They were responsible for that Tesla you posted. I've seen one of these in person, and they're even uglier when you can see all the lines, the awful look of the top when folded down... just terrible. There are other Chrysler 300 convertibles that look much better topless - so far nothing from Newport has looked good to me.

The worst, any that leave the folded top sticking up like a VW Beetle, unless on a VW Beetle.

The next worst, any that have that stupid "basket handle"!

Sooo, check and check! Possibly the worst ever....:highfive:

I will also never trust a link you post again after not warning me about being blinded by the ugly!:thehand:

Here's one I think is considerably better. For all I know, it could also be a Newport. Not having the c-pillars improved the look be leaps and bounds!

Shock value. :food-snacking:

That 300C looks really good without the B pillars! Wow.

This one would be tied for the worst one I've seen (the other is a riced-out Ford Focus convertible)

Those look willy sheeety!!!
I do think that some sort of roll bar should be there..But I have seen them more tastefully done. I do have to agree that the Tesla looks like it has a blacksmiths blow bag on the back of it.

Really?... REALLY!?!? Seriously a PRIUS????? That's just baaaad.

And that first 300. All that money and work and they couldn't just go ahead and paint the whole car? The fender (and assumably the hood) is a different shade. And what is up with that hood gap?

That's probably just the lighting.

And the hood gap is typical Daimler-Chrysler quality. That comes standard!

For an actual factory convertible, I leave you the Nissan 300ZX

Oh god. I forgot about those, too.

Blech. Poor things.

Did they do TT convertibles? That would be a crying shame.

This is a factory 4 door Mercedes convertible from 1956, actually they sold quite a few of these.

The amount of work that goes into one of these cars to make them a convertible is nothing short of amazing.
