I have a CTS with the Bose stereo, and without the Nav system. What would a dealer charge me to install a Navigation system? My dealer said no one asked this and is not calling me back (maybe I need to remind him). Anyway, can this be done? And how much would it be?

I hear that the GM Nav system is not that good, so maybe there are some third party options? Any suggestions..

Hey, welcome aboard...... I have also heard that the DVD navigation system is a waste of money.... Apparently it doesnt do much.... I cant tell you how much it will be, but youd have to buy the unit, which could cost a lot (upwards of 500, maybe more), and then, they will probably charge 5 or 6 hrs labor... You may look into getting a different navigation system (not the factory GM).... I'm sure someone else here can steer you in the right direction, at least better than I can :)

BTW, are you the CadillacDan from GMF???

Hello! And thanks for the kind words! I am probably not the CadillacDan you are thinking off. I started using that name when I signed on yesterday! I was actually looking for a good cadillac forum for a while. This is it! I am from Chicago, Il , had my caddy since last november. I love it..

Ok.... On the GMforums, there was a cadillac technician that even had the format of your name the same way..... And he knew (or seemed) like he knew about everything...

And you have definitely come to the right place, summed up in one word, this place is GOLDEN!!!!

I have successfully installed a DVD Nav unit into a stock CTS. It is a piece of cake. The unit is awesome and is probably on of the best Nav units out there. I've tried a few.

Getting help on installing this puppy was not easy though. Getting the right unit is the key. PM me if you are still interested and I will lead you through it.

The right unit will be according to the CTS you have. You can find thr right unit based on your VIN# First define what you have and then find the appropriate replacement. Such as, is your unit Bose or non-Bose? The replacement needs to be the same. Like I said PM me and I can walk you through it.

I am very interested in upgrading my stock radio to the DVD/Nav system.

Ratso, I tried PMing you but I got an error saying that PM's are disabled by the administrator (?), and you have it set up so we can't send you e-mail!

Could you let me know which unit and whatever else I have to get? I also would like to know how much it cost you and if there are any features that don't work properly with the install.

Man in my mind no run of the mill OEM NAV system comes close to this:

The Magellan Roadmate 700 is by far one of THE best Navigation systems on the damn PLANET. Hard drive based, easily updateable, CLEAR voice prompts and best of all its based on the SAME technology as the HERTZ NEVERLOST system found in Hertz rental mules. I can say this because on a recent trip to Brea California I had a 2003 Lincoln Town Car with Neverlost installed and I was RARELY at a loss for direction, this thing just rocks. I loved it so much that the first time I used it, I immediately went online to see if Magellan produced a home version and sure enough the Roadmate 700 is it. It isnt cheap though with a street price of 1300.00, but I know you can scoop them up for as little as about 900.00 on ebay. And you can take it with you in any car you drive, without worrying about thugs stealing it when youre not around.

Just a suggestion anyway...

While you guys were installing this unit did you see any video inputs or connectors that were not used...

We are having a discussion on the forum about the possiblity of a TV tuner module that they are apparently talking about in Europe. Some of us who have (or will be getting in my case) want to watch TV while parked or other things such as rear view cameras/ nightvision/ video games, etc....

Thanks,

Reed

The Export version does have an additional harness/plug, but I do not know if the US radio will accept this plug (has this plug)...

Old thread, and posting a correction so this is not used:

It doesn't matter whether you have bose or non-bose, all the Nav units are set-up to be mated to the bose system - there are no "non-bose navs". What matters is the interior color of your vehicle, really. The pinouts are the same on the Nav unit across all installs. Basically, ignore this thread if you are reading this...
