is that the CORRECT value resistor? it MUST match the chip on the key - EXACTLY -

try turning the ignition OFF -
disconnect the resistor -
and turn the ignition ON -
THEN try to pull codes -

the VATS should only kick in during the START phase - when activated -
UNLESS you have some aftermarket radio stuff -

if that doesn't work -
try disconnecting BOTH battery cables and touch them together for 5 seconds -

Do you experience any actual problems or symptoms related to that message on the DIC?

I’ve got the same message on my DIC upon startup more than half the time, along with the Security light that stays on when the car is running. I get codes:

B 1009: EEPROM checksum error

B 2734: Coded key controller memory failure

From the research I’ve done along with not experiencing any actual symptoms points to it basically being a false alarm that triggers that message and lights to come on.

If I turn on the ignition just to "on" and NOT TO START. Slowly the display comes up and says "Starting Disabeled" You don't have to turn it all the way to start. I have not tried grounding the positive side. I will do that right now.

No security lights ever come on and no mods to any system (radio).
