Hello all. I have a 1996 Cadillac SLS. I have an issue with the pull down motor. The clip is up and when i close my trunk it doesn't pull down anymore. So my trunk is still popped up but it is locked, however, it won't pull down so it looks like my trunk is going to fly up lol. Im not really sure what to do. I'm not a mechanic at all so i'm at a frustrating point. I don't want to buy the wrong part. any help would be appreciated thanks.

If you do a search for trunk pull down fix you'll find hundreds of posts. First check the fuse though.

oh ok didn't know there was a fuse for it. Where would it be at? On the back board of the trunk?

The wiring harness for the trunk lid functions exits via the left trunk hinge bracket - a channel behind the plastic trim cover. The point at which the harness leaves the bracket and goes to the body is subject to bending and chafe. Check the wiring there, and the body ground for that harness under the carpet at the LR fenderwell metal.
