well everyone auto store in town is 2 weeks away from a powersteering line and wants to charge shipping, last chance at the local napa in the morning. What cars would it fit off it went junkyard diving?

 

I'd bet it's the same as a 307 powered caddy, 98, or Electra. Probably very similar to a 307 powered lesabre or 88 too.

 

Yea, you have a lot of options. A lot of cars from the 80s and 90s with the power steering in the same area will have a line that fits. Just bring your old line and make sure the threads match on both ends. I grabbed one from a 90s car that had a port for a sensor, works good.

 

I am not a mechanic in any manner or form however I own a 5.7 GM diesel car. Larry is right that the diesels have the hydro boost system which is vastly different from the systems on gas powered versions. It may be a bit of a challenge finding a diesel parts car these days but anything is possible!

 

A good NAPA store can make a hose, but there proud of them.

 

It works ok, until something fails. Then you have no brakes or steering. My dad had that happen during the winter storm last year. Not fun.

 

it stops decent enough, not on a dime by any means but it will bring it to a halt, by grabbing the wheel and pulling yourself into the pedal with all your mite.

car has some kind of a current draw, car sat 2 days in our heated shop and wouldnt start, batteries dead

 

New line on steers awesome and stops awesome now, but brakes light still on, any ideas?

I thought that, maybe switch is bad, pedal feels all the way released and no drag on the wheels

And my windshield chrome is good just needs to be reinstalled and all my dash bezeling is good just need the top dash cover, its like a vinyl.

Got a new stereo swapped in and I think its my alternator squeaking 12.5v at battery on or off, take that in and have it tested though on the way home I threw the power steering belt

 

Still got the alpine setup? Depending on model number, I might want it.

Turbo 350 or 400 (probably 400 as caddys used th400 at that time for their big blocks)

 

Been driving it and getting more adventurous higher sppeds and seemed like its really wrapping out decided dam this thing needs an overdrive, then started paying more attention to it and it only shifts once near as I can tell, I figured its probably a 3 speed since I have Twp drive selections and a lo

 

This car has the TH400 three speed auto. Best trans GM ever made. Smooth and near indestructible. For all normal driving, use the left hand "DRIVE" setting.

 

Doesn't this 1980 Cadillac have a 5.7 diesel? Did the diesel come with the TH400?

 

I always use the left drive, cept when brakes were marginal I used it to help slow down by downshifting

Out of my new manual, 400, 325 or 200C

325 transmission was used in 1980 Eldorado and Seville. The 200 transmission was used with 4.1 V6 which was a mid year option in 1980. When the diesel had the 3-speed automatic was it the 400?

 

The diesel RWD came with a 200C. They needed a cable shifted transmission.

I've done a few TH-350 retrofits.

 

I was looking at maybe swapping in an overdrive trans if this one is indeed out,

 

My 1982 Buick Electra Park Avenue with same 5.7 diesel engine has the 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and it gets over 30 mpg no matter highway or city driving - very efficient!

I am pretty sure the 5.7 diesel had a 3-speed auto until in 1982, maybe for 1981, when they switched to 4-speed overdrive.

 

I know very little about Cadillac, Olds and GM manual says 200C but that means about as much to me as telling a blind man the sky blue. No idea what a 200C is but my book does give me gear ratios and such and looks like a 3spd

New fan belts and had alternator tested, he said its charging awesome but batteries went dead on my way to work (headlights and fan motor) so had problems else where, discover for some reason passenger side battery wasn't flowing current or getting charged, lucky glow plugs still worked, flip flopped cables and shined em up, works good, charges good, whirls over better then ever now, new belts fixed my squeal and charging issue

Found I do have a bulb out and that's hopefully why blinker doesn't flash

 

Developed a shimmy yesterday about 20mph then a vibration, later on had a blow out, luckily was in town not going very fast, got a new tire mounted last night back in business, ever since the new belt and battery fix I've been amazed with how awesome this thing runs and starts.

Put a blinker bulb in and the blinker works good again, also replaced dash blinker indicator bulb, put the dash all back together, just drive it now for a while
