So I saw this on eBay and the price was too good to pass up...

Look at this on eBay:

GM 2006 CADILLAC STS REFURBISHED HUD - 15943543

http://bit.ly/153uLpl

Won it and its being shipped here and once the weather clears so I can drive the Camaro this is another little project to add to the car along with finalizing my brembo upgrade and egx body kit.

I'm hoping I can just cut the dash (it's hollow) buy the HUD defrost nozzle and wire it up with the HUD dash switch and it'll be a go.

Don't want nor need acc so that removes most of the headache however does anyone know if there's any special programming needed to activate this once I hook everything up or once wired up will it just work (highly unlikely).

Any assist guys? Especially looking for insight from the other gurus (this means you ddadler!)

If I had a V I'd probably install it. Fortunately mine came with HUD so I was able to focus on some other projects instead. So far I've had no dash rattles. I would recommend replacing any of the 7mm hex screws if you do. The threads tend to get a little chewed but they are pretty cheap from GM. My best advice is take your time and snap lots of photos in case you need any reference when putting everything back together. The steering column and gear shift are a pain to work around. When the dealership replaced my HUD projector under warranty they simply broke some of the plastic on the dash instead of moving things out of the way properly. I really hate when other people have to work on my car.

Way to revive two dead threads for no reason other than to comment something that doesn't contribute to anything whatsoever.

Keep it stock!!!!

Don't change anything!!!

All engineering was done by collage boys... You can't beat them or alter anything they do!!!

Good luck...
^^^ The above post was in all caps... but Cadillac Forums automatically edited my post and "correctly" capitalized it for me...
Hi,M_Hoff,Thank's for you reply! If it’s just a device replacement, I still want to try it!
I've done a lot of stuff to my STS... but I don't stray to far out of the box

Best of luck with your endeavors...

As you have the SLS with the redesigned interior the defrost nozzle from the STS is likely not going to fit.
The other problem is that based on the radio used in the SLS which appears to be the “supernav” from the Escalade suggests that the SLS is using the GMLan from the Escalade and not the STS. One uses an 11 bit protocol the other a 29 bit protocol. As you might imagine they don’t work together as they don’t speak the same language.
Which means even if you get it all connected I’d expect that the HUD won’t be able to understand any info from the car’s computer network. I’d also expect there is no wiring under the dash provisioned for a HUD.

...don't understand it, but I like it

If you feel the need to tinker... get into wristwatches:

https://www.oris.ch/

https://www.sinn.de/en/Kollektion.htm

https://www.zodiacwatches.com/

but don't... under, any circumstances, mess with your STS...
the only upgrade you can make is...

which is unobtainable: The only upgrade to a fully loaded STS is... the, "supercharged engine for the STS as an accessory/upgrade item..."

The: currently unavailable, "LC3 upgrade."

The Aurora IRL motor was 650hp and the Northstar LMP with the turbos probably more but I've never seen a number listed. There must be a bunch of the IRL motors gathering dust somewhere. I actually know the owners of an engine firm that was big at Indy for decades and it's never occurred to me to ask if they have any gems hiding somewhere!

To Ludacrisvp:

Very professional answer, thank you very much!

One problem I can think of is that the input and output, HUD is only used as an output display unit, there is no interaction, then there is a problem with HUD interpretation. HUD SWITCH should operate directly on the hud device, do not know whether it will pass the bus protocol
