Project HUD

So I saw this on eBay and the price was too good to pass up...

Look at this on eBay:

GM 2006 CADILLAC STS REFURBISHED HUD - 15943543

http://bit.ly/153uLpl

Won it and its being shipped here and once the weather clears so I can drive the Camaro this is another little project to add to the car along with finalizing my brembo upgrade and egx body kit.

I'm hoping I can just cut the dash (it's hollow) buy the HUD defrost nozzle and wire it up with the HUD dash switch and it'll be a go.

Don't want nor need acc so that removes most of the headache however does anyone know if there's any special programming needed to activate this once I hook everything up or once wired up will it just work (highly unlikely).

Any assist guys? Especially looking for insight from the other gurus (this means you ddadler!)

Damn that is quite the price.
Likely ddalder will tell you that it will need to be enabled in the IPM configuration via the Tech 2.
The window tint on my windshield has not increased or decreased the HUD visibility in my opinion.
Yeah. The entire car is tinted. 35% over OEM 70% tint on side and rear windows. 20% over the OEM moonroof tint. 50% over OEM 70% tint on windshield.

I have a medical exemption prescription from the tint laws in MN due to migraine headaches. Before tinted windshield I had roughly 2 a week now it's about 1 per month with the tint. Traded in the DTS with the same tint setup dealer didn't notice or didn't care and sold it as it was. My monte has 35% on all glass but its hardly driven and is typically only out summer daytime.
Foglamps not US/Can ... what does that do?

See anything about getting the V cluster features or did you not think to look? or are those all the options related to the IPM?
I think you need to get a RCDLR from the 06 or newer car in order to do it.
@1BadCadSTS - what is on your bumper on the STS in the last pic with the XLR (next to passenger headlight)?

Also, as you apparently have intimate relations with the XLR are there any parts for the XLR that could or should or that someone might want to be used on the STS?
Not really sure of all its features.
Good thing you thought of (and re-did) that XLR otherwise you wouldn't have the needed parts.
Nice! How's the HUD coming?
Too bad we don't have an express open like hold unlock instead of lock.
Yeah. Girlfriends Jetta has the auto down and up _and_ closes the moonroof as well. It's handy.
Vr can open / close all windows (no roof) so I agree there must be a network "packet" that sends this command to express down or express up the windows.

Are you sure there is no data up there?
I thought the roof would stop closing if put in park or something if it was during closure. Then again that might have been in the SRX.
I wonder if the RIM could be commanded to open or close the roof. Not sure how you would do it though.
Maybe add an extra PDM to control the roof as if it were a window? No idea how you might go about doing that though.

Here are some close ups I took of the window, not sure if they will be useful or not but I figured they couldn't hurt.

All are very large resolution so you may want to open them in a new tab to get full size.

I would think you would have to enable the HUD via a tech 2 otherwise I would bet the car isn't going to broadcast the info it is going to pick up from the LAN bus.
Nice... Rough week for projects for you it seems.
Did the display corner markings show up when trying to move it? Maybe the mirror is just stuck / off the track.
Does the illumination change?
If it moves during startup that sounds like it would be moving to a memory position ...
If they don't show during switch use than I'd have to say the HUD doesn't see the switch being active as they should come up any time it's moved.
I assume you checked connection of the harness to the HUD ... Wonder if the traces on the circuit board or wires are broken inside.
