I have a new #1 fob I had to buy for my 99 SLS, the old was too weak and worked intermittently even with a new battery. Anyway, can I program this myself or do I need special tools, etc. I hate to take it to the dealer and get rooked for something that probably takes 5 minutes.

Yup, you need a Tech2, it takes about 5 minutes. Call the dealership and find out what they charge, it shouldn't be that much. You'll need to bring both keyfob's for reporgramming.

If you are a regular customer, some dealers will do it for free.
