Is there a different procedure to program a Canadian CTS? Mine was born in British Columbia. The professional lock and key guy has been out four times with a programmer now and I mentioned how I thought the oil pressure being in kilipascals was interesting. He looked at me funny and I pointed out the car was metric.

‘Oooooh, that makes a difference!’

Really? I printed the instructions mentioned a few days ago and he tried that, too, and it didn’t work. He’s going g to research and come back tomorrow, but I figured I’d ask here as well. He ordered the same for as what I had because I provided the numbers from it and everything, and it looks identical.

I can't imagine a different process. I can't say that with certainty, however. Merely an educated guess. Having a totally different process just doesn't make sense.

I dont know if it goes with canadian cars. But eu models use another frequency, 432 MHz. So first you need to have the right fob. Otherwise no good no matter which programmer you use.

For the record, the guy gave up. He called two different companies for the scanners he was using and the second said he was fighting a losing battle. Time for the dealership.

OK. I have a final answer.

$370 and a dealership visit later, they said they had first source the fob and key from different dealerships (it's a chevy dealer here), then when they got the car, they had to go around to each door and program the key. Or something like that. Then they had to leave the coder hooked up to the car for 30-60 minutes while the car and coder talked to each other and learned the new fob. It wasn't a simple learn procedure like the lock and key guy thought it should have been, so they kind of verified what he was telling me. I asked if it was Just this car (since it's metric) or Cadillac, and he said that's Cadillac and it's security. I guess I feel a little better about knowing the car is fairly difficult to take =)
