today I started my 97 sts and it started making a noise like it was low on powersteering fluid. Not loud but like the sound when you can't turn the wheel anymore. I also could smell the same smell when my alternator pulley went bad. I checked the fluid and everything was ok. The sound elevates with the speed of the engine and the steering is tight as if I was doing 50 plus mph. There are no leaks and from what I could see everything looks ok. Is this easy to replace or is it a dealer only. I have the Haynes manual but the explanations in it seem as if they have no idea with how much space you have to work in.:banghead:

First things first. How old is the accesory drive belt? What condition is it in? If it is slipping on the pulleys, it will act exactly like you said. Check there first.
