I've recently noticed that I get no power assist when not moving at idle (below 1000rpm). Rev over 1000rpm and move then the steering boost comes back..... this has become very difficult as I always back into parking spaces. As I understand things this is likely an issue with the VES - Variable Effort Steering and/or one of the many sensors it relies on to function correctly.

Does anyone have any tips on how to diagnos and find the root of my problem?

Any suggestions on how to diagnos the pump? This seems to make sense however I'm now getting an "abs", " stabilitrack" & "traction control" disabled warning.......I think I need a better scan tool.

I appreciate your suggestions, if anyone thinks of anything else please post.

Since the EBCM controls the VES function that may explain your warnings. As to a tool, get one that will read ABS which usually means it will also read Body and communication (U) codes, preferably one that has real time monitoring ability. ~$200 +/-
