Powder Coating cost?

Powder Coating here in Vegas seems to be VERY overpriced. I thought I had a hookup through my Dad's friend, but they turned out to be the most expensive; BS! I got quotes from 3 different places. Each one was for a semi-gloss black on 4 18" factory wheels, including sand blasting the original paint/clear off. Cheapest was $80/wheel, most expensive was over $100/wheel!

What are other people paying around the US? Whats an alternative I can try? Maybe asking for price matching?? I am pissed right now, as my new tires and TPS are here, but there is no way in hell I am paying 75% of what I paid for the rims just to have them powder coated black... Insane.

Out here in Dallas CTS2NV paid $99 a wheel i think. His looks sharp, you can see a few pics on the "Dallas V Meet" thread.
I actually own a powder coating shop as well as a Corvette mailorder warehouse. We powder coat everything. I am the 4th largest powder coating plant in the state of FL. My oven is 30ft long, 12 High and 12 wide.

1st, whoever is going to sandblast the rims, make sure they use walnut shells and not sand/glass beads. Down here, my guy charges me about $15-$20 per wheel. But thats my cost not the customers cost. 2nd, we charge $35 per wheel to powder coat. So figure they guy is going to charge you $25-$30 to sandblast and $35-$40 to powder coat. The $80 price isn't so bad.

Also make sure they acid wash the parts. If you go to there facility and see a pressure washer, it's really a steam genie, than you know they are prepping your parts before they powder them. Bonds better. If they don't, I would walk away and go to another shop.

Just for comparison's sake, the price to chrome seems to be about $150/wheel out here in CA.
Yea it was 99.00 a rim and that was by Wheelsamerica (fixrim.com) they seem to be a nation wide company. They can do just about anything you want to do to rims. Did an exellent job on mine. well worth my 400.
Wheels of America has a flat rate.

I just had a rim on my Vette fixed.

I am thinking about powder coating the V new rims.

There is still no confirmation as to whether or not they have a clear coat.
I still have take offs in mint condition with maybe 2000 miles on the tires. May let them go for the right price.
WoA are pricey, IMHO.
local shops here charge 80-100/per

Yeah, my place is charging $100 per wheel to do it. The problem is the time and labor involved in stripping the clearcoat. Without that, it would be much cheaper...

Interested in doing mine? I sent you a PM.
I found a shop that charges $50 a rim in stockton, CA. They have a 17 foot long oven so they can also do some pretty big stuff (maybe a whole V but I don't think the rubber would do too well).

I did not go into details but if you want to talk with them their phone number is 209.464.1083. They sound like a very capable shop with the ability to powder coat just about anything in any color. Since I have not done this myself I am not an expert but for someone that it is it may be worth a call to this shop.
Well I stopped by the place that quoted me $80 per wheel and dropped them off. Thank you to everyone for your quick replies; made me realize that $80/wheel is a good price for quality work.

While I was there I of course asked to see samples of the finish. They had just finished 4 17" wheels for another customer in gloss black. The finish was perfect and looked amazing. I told them to do mine exactly like those.

Hopefully have some pics by Friday and doing the calipers on Saturday! Decided to do gloss black calipers with the silver V logo. Should be sick. Pics to come, of course ;)
