Hey everyone!

I thought it would be cool to record and post some high quality audio clips of exhaust sounds. Ill kick it off here.

I recorded some fly bys of my 92. 10 series flowmaster muffler and magna flow high flow cat (recorded in 24bit, 48K, bounced at 320kbps mp3).

Next Im gonna try to rig some microphones up so I can record engine bay sound, and exhaust sound while mobile.

If you guys have a mobile phone (high quality would be preferred but whatever you can do would be cool too!) that can record, try it out and post on soundcloud.com and share here! just make sure you're not super close to the pipe so the audio distorts =)

I have my old 4.1 Borla setup on youtube, car sounds about the same with the 4.9 maybe a little throatier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYEDUeGyI4U
You transferred the borla set up from your 4.1 to your 4.9?

Sounds nice and threatening at idle =)

How much was it? I was thinking about going to borla route but decided to try flowmasters first. Maybe a glass pack next. I'm hoping someone has some audio of a 4.9 with a glass pack.

Or some catless audio =)

I'm talking about forum members. not random peoples crappy quality old youtube videos. I'm talking fresh high quality stuff from our very own friends here at CF!
The OP is apparently looking for studio quality audio reproduction - no cell phones, camcorders or webcams. Studio microphones and cabling, high capacity sound storage, proper staging and mike placement. See Post #1, and listen to some clips from #2 for comparison.

Quite honestly, the SoundCloud and YouTube clips are pretty awful on both this laptop and through the remote speakers on the upstairs office PC. Not throwing stones, but MOST recorded exhaust sound is just plain flat irritating to listen to - you get some idea, but not the whole picture.

7 1/2" or 10" reel-to-reel tape. ReVox A77-III. Scotch 203.

Dammit dchavezo you ruined my joke!!!

I was going to suggest wax cylinders. No need to over complicate things with a reel to reel. I mean really, TWO reels, and buttons??? And electricity, no no!

Yeah high quality is preferred but if you want to record and post please do. Just make sure you're far away enough from the exhaust pipes that the sound doesn't distort.

Ideally we'd get high quality recordings but if you can't but still have the means please post. I just want to encourage everyone to post the sound of their set up. The higher the quality the better =)

Listen to my first post!! =D
