Plug Wires?

1579 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  jpoole
I just completed installing my B&B headers (to add to my B&B catback) and the stock plug wires are virtually on the headers on a couple of cylinders so it looks like I will have to replace them. What aftermarket wires do you guys recommend and what's the best deal. Also should I go with the 1,200 degree versions or can I just use the 500 degree. The headers are ceramic coated by the way. Thanks for your help!

I left my wires when I installed as mine were nice and tidy, but I do know that you can buy some CoolSox for any wires that you end up getting. That should add some protection.

Good luck. How you likin those headers? Its one of the best mods, in my opinion, right after the shifter.
If your wires have the rectangular protrusions om the end and this is what is nearly touching, you can just trim them off at a 45* angle, Just don't go into the 90* part of the boot (leave about .0625 or so).

I had to trim two of mine and have had no issues whatsoever in the two years since my conversion.
Luke has a set of plug wires specifically for headers. Lingenfelter reccomends their magnacore wires...so there are a bunch of options. No matter what you get I would reccomend putting some cool-sox on them.
Come on guys!Check out our wires, there is no better!

I had the same issue your having with my Kooks setup. I had Luke at lindsay drop ship me some....alot of guys are using them with great durability. I have no issues to report and it's been 10,000 miles or so.

The headers certainly seem to make a huge SOTP difference but with the wet roads we still have it has been hard to tell. I can say this much that the low-end power is much more responsive (by the way the cats are totally gutted) and the car is easier to drive (more responsive) in higher gears at lower rpm. It is not so sluggish (although a couple of downshifts has always cured that) and much smoother in it's response. I can honestly say it is not appreciably louder than it was with just the catback and seems to be quieter at highway speeds than it was. Go figure. In short I think it's awesome! I will be sending my w4m PCM back to Jess this week to have it retuned for the exhaust changes and the coming installation of a 160 degree thermostat.

BTW... I ordered some Granatelli wires and Kool Sox. Thanks for all the help guys!

Cool Sox, or wrap the headers <- a lil' ugly, but keep underhood temps WAY down. That's what I did, and I'm very happy with it. The back drivers side wire pretty much lays on the wrap and shows no signs or wear/burns.
I have B&B headers and put on Taylor 10.4s. Fit fine and not problems last 20,000 miles. Plus those 10.4 look sweet.
