Hi i just purchased a 98 deville and came across a major issue my courtesy lights, cig lighters, glove box light, map lights, trunk and hood lights and visor lights all stopped working at the same time. The fuses are still good for these items, so I'm stumped. These items not only fail to work when entering the car at night, but they can't be manually turned on from the headlight switch either. Has anyone encountered this problem, or can you suggest possible things to check other than taking the car in for an expensive electrical diagnosis? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to look for a short to ground. A wire is either broke or pinched on that circuit. I would check the trunk first. Examine the harness coming from the trunk lid to the harness on the interior wall of the trunk. The wires to the trunk lamp are very small gauge and can easily break where the harnesses meet.

I don't believe his instrument cluster is the problem.

Check the lighter sockets for a coin down the lighter socket . also check the maxi fuses.sts96

Wouldn't a short cause a fuse to blow??? I think eyeballing the harnesses for an open might be a better avenue to explore after verifying the power is available to the circuit. Look for 12vdc at the fuse block for the affected circuit(s). Check for an open circuit at all the movement points where the harnesses are flexed. Also check connectors; you may have an incomplete path to ground. Good luck!

If the fuse isn't blown, then I would look for a cut wire (an open) near the harness next to the fuse block in the trunk. There is a small harness coming from the trunk lid that joins into a bigger harness on the trunk wall. Where these harnesses meet is a flex point.

Does this model of Caddy have the batt saver?

ok i was able to get the interior lights and cig lighter working. there was a wire that was broken under the hood by the fuse block. but i still have no digital part of my dash. the lights across the top of the cluster work fine, just no digital speedo,fuel, climate

I didn't see you mention the instrument cluster in your first post. Did you check out the link that Thu posted?
