Well after reading all the posts on here on using Plasti Dip, I decided to try and black out my side window trim. I did like everyone recommended and watched no less than about 50 videos on it before diving in. The problem I had was it did not even try to separate at the trim edge, it just pulled past the edge and on up the chrome trim I just finished spraying and peeled it right off. :banghead:

After 3 hours of prep, taping, spraying drying and so on, it was basically an entire waste of my time. :crying2:

I have no clue why it did not separate, but anywhere there was rubber trim next to the chrome, it just pulled it all off instead of separating at the joint between the rubber and the chrome trim.

This was basically everywhere the glass was, where there was Paint, it separated perfectly, but on the trim edge facing the glass... terrible results.

I've since removed it all from the car. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

quite a few folks had sh*t luck also, some went with trim tape (summit racing) instead of the plasti-dip on the window trim. if you have polished rims the window trim is a nice blend,...

Hey dude

Like i said over in my thread. You gotta tape it to the line you want in the window trim. The seam between the two isn't enough for the plasti dip to break properly. Spray 4 coats in rapid succession. 1 or 2 mins Max between and after the last coat pull the tape right away. I think you will have good results this way. DO NOT follow the typical wide tape method and pulling the excess after. This will work on the grill and emblems but not for the trim. Don't be discouraged. I tried a couple different ways before I got it right.

Do the trim below the window on one door first. Only takes a couple mins to tape and uses very little plasti dip. Once you have that right do the rest. Feel free to post back with any questions or issues you have along the way.

Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I did the fender grills and the rear trunk piece as well as the CTS letters and those came out great. I am going to give it another try just on the bottom pieces today using the Pull Tape when Wet method and see how that works out. If it works, then I'll do the rest. Ill let you know how I make out.

Thanks again.

I had the same issue when I did my V. I could never get it removed perfectly around the base of the window trim. I tried 3-4 times. I eventually just had that wrapped with vinyl. Everything else I did with Pastidip came out great. Even when I got the window trim close to perfect, you could see the unevenness when looking out the side view mirrors and it made my OCD nuts :)

Okay, I just completed the passenger side window trim. Looks pretty good, :bouncy: however I missed a few areas and have one spot where I must have gone over the trim a tad with the tape so when I pulled it up there is a thin sliver of chrome showing.

So my question is, how do you touch up area's missed? If you put painters tape on the dried Pasti Dip will it pull the Plasti Dip off the trim when trying to remove it. Thanks again for all the support.

Yes its too fresh so the tape could peel the Plastidip but if you wait a few days and then put the delicate tape you should be OK.

Does it hurt anything if you wait a couple days and they spray an additional touch up coat over the spots that I may have missed?

Also, if it happens to rain a day after spraying it on, will that hurt it? Thanks

Yes.... If its just the edge it should not be noticeable. You won't have any problems with the rain the next day.
