Im considering putting in this unit because it has the mp3/dvd playback plus navigation. Anyone installed them in there escalades? Just wondering if i should take it to a shop or not when I get it.

I have been looking on ebay, and theres some shady overseas countries selling them for 100-500$. Looking at the more legit ones it looks like the price is around 1000$ Can anyone find a good price from a reliable seller?

I have an 05 and I installed an N1... keeps getting stock on the gear thing. So when it folds out it'll hit the gear. I think it sucks. It sounds like crap. I switch the navigation to a regular cd player... sounds so much better. I dont suggest it but thats my own personal opinion.

I have the N2 in a 2002 escalade. I like it a lot. You can make it so it doesn't fold down and just stays up . That's how I have mine. That way you don't have to worry about the gear shifter getting in the way . Otherwise you just fold it up before you put it in park. Doesn't bother me. I agree , it doesn't sound better than the stock deck does with the factory speakers. I switched all of my door speakers out. Now it's way better than stock. The navigation works real well, except you can't enter a destination while the park brake is off. That sucks. I heard there was a workaround but I dont know how to do it. That also applies to DVD movies. It also doesn't work with the stock changer ( or at least that's what they told me). So I bought a changer so I can leave the map disc in and still listen to my cd's .
I had it proffesionally installed at Paradyme in Sacramento. I found it used for 1150 on Craigslist a few months ago. I think the unit itself is great, just a lot of little things like the gear shifter, changer and dvd playback stuff that kinda sucks. It's a good deal for 1000, and dont buy anything that's too good to be true, unless it's in person. Too many scammers out here.

I think leaving it out is an invitation to get jacked... dont u think?
Not only that, but anyone who looks in your window already knows your radio isnt stock. And the better crooks know what the flipout face looks like so why not leave it out.

Thats true, they will get it if they want it. So make it hard, get a QUALITY alarm. I'll laugh at anyone who gets their shit jacked because they spent all their money on aftermarket shit and not an alarm to save it.

I got Viper remote with aftermarket hidden alarms and my truck is literally impossible to steal. I also got Lojack. Never used OnStar. I would take it to Eclipse off Auburn Blvd. in Citrus Heights SkyHighEnt and ask them to install an alarm. They know what quality is!!

How much does lojack cost? I've seen it on the website but didn't see the price anywhere?

I have the N2, and i have the workaround where you can watch DVDs while driving and enter addresses while on the move. It involved hard wiring and soldering (i had a shop do it). But in the mean time just run your dvd video or av input throught the camera and do the split screen while moving.

Lojack is like $500
do you think that is better than the standard OnStar service?

I think its like $750 for like 4 years. I forget. But yes, LoJack is by far a lot better than OnStar. I have heard too many incidents where Onstar has been unsuccessful. Ive also heard of people disconnecting the OnStar service. With Lojack, its hidden in your vehicle, makes it more difficult for someone to find it and buys yourself more time for Lojack to track your car. I believe there are stories of Lojack finding a vehicle within 5 minutes with the cops out on their way to recovering the vehicle.
