No. NO "chip" improves performance or fuel mileage. This has been discussed endlessly.
There are two types of "chips". Those that do LITERALLY nothing (the circuitry just controls the LEDs). The other type alters the signal from the IAT sensor to make the PCM think the intake charge is colder, making it add more fuel. But because here is no actual increase in air density, you just end up with a rich mixture, LESS power and LESS MPG.

the original Northstar engineers "picked all the low hanging fruit" -
meaning - they got ALL the cheap/easy power and economy -

Alifard, I can sell you a "chip" that will fool your IAT into providing a slightly richer fuel mixture - exactly the same as the advertised "chip". I can send them for $69.95, shipped. (Of course, the actual product is a $0.25 Radio Shack resistor with a set of $0.89 Parts Express connectors).
PLEASE stop reading hype and snake oil claims for your 2001 Northstar - no one in here is trying to con you out of your $$$$ - we're here to save you those $$$$. Truly. (and remember: Your car has the 275 hp/3.11 economy final drive powertrain. There are NO magic fixes. None.)

amusingly, the GF performance chips are often one of the advertisements at the top of this page. Wonder why they'd keep doing that, unless there's a never ending supply of the P. T. Barnum suckers.

good point. I'll have to add that to my budget next month. I get enough good from this site that i'm willing to pay for it.
A lot of people go for bolt-on horsepower, but I prefer stick-on horsepower. Racing decals increase speed and power by at least 10%. I personally witnessed a 1978 Corolla blow the doors off of a CTS-V, and the only mods were a 44 Magnum gear shifter and a NOS sticker.

You know all you people saying these bolt on power adders and octane boosters and all that stuff doesn't work just have no idea what you're talking about. I've said it before and I'll say it again. They lighten your wallet. Less weight = improved performance. You can't argue with that!!!
