Has anybody installed or know about a performance chip by the company Fast Chip? Iwas thinking of installing one in my 1992 seville which has very low mileage. It has a 4.9 litre v-8 and is in stock form. They claim a gain of 20 hp at the wheels. any comments or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Most of that stuff (and their claims) are pure BS. Generally all they do is trick the PCM into believing that the intake air temperature is cold and thus the PCM richens the fuel mixture. They usually cause more problems than they are worth. Save your money.

I also claim I am better looking that Brad Pit, Gorge Clooney and who ever women are dying for these days. Please send $20 to my PayPal for a picture with my autograph.
Obviously I am running faster than Usain Bolt too.

if you want some power how about adding a Summit Racing auto parts sticker to your rear window
maybe some air vents on the front fenders and to top it off place a toggle switch that goes to nothing on the underside of the dash somewhere

but seriously
if all the good ideas had not been taking already id invent some POS chip or something that claims to make more power so i could sell it and rip off anyone dumb enough to buy it without even asking questions first

good think you came here
cause no one here in there right might well do anything other then try to convince you not to get that thing

Lizzardman, send an email to fast chip, ask them to send you the dyno results from the testing of the chip. They won't have any. Theres a thread somewhere on the technical archives with some good upgrades for the 4.x engines, they'll cost more than a chip, but they'll actually make a difference.

Performance chip! huh, GM is full of brilliant scientists and highly talented technicians.... If the performance could be safely increased by just a simple chip, the GM would put it on the car in the first place!

They do "work" in some sense. They remap the fuel/spark curves to lean out the mixture and add more timing. Which so long as you don't get too much knock, will make a little more power. Manufacturers tend to tune somewhat conservatively since they have to assume the car may see service at 120F with the A/C blasting, fully loaded while driving up a mountain.

But I wouldn't waste my money on a blindly tuned chip, the right way is to throw the car on a dyno and make the tweaks, which granted is hard to do with OBDI unless you can burn eprom chips. And you most certainly won't get 20hp at the wheels from it when the 4.9 probably puts down about 160 at the wheels stock in its best days.

I realize they have chips for damn near every car out there, but it seems like they work on diesels the best, a few friends of mine have fords with the 7.3L and there's an extreme difference with the chips, but not for 4.x or northstars motors and idk if i'd want to chip my car anyways. Subs airbox trick makes a minor difference that's for sure

You can't "chip" and OBD2 car, you have to flash a tune to the ECM through a tuning program. OBD1 cars were older technology and all of the memory was on an EPROM chip which is easily replaced. The negative was if you weren't happy and wanted to make a tweak, you had to toss it and burn a new EPROM chip as they were one use only.
