If I start the car without a front passenger, the air bag light indicates pass. air bag off -ok ; but if a passenger then gets in while the car is still running, even after several miles the bag light still shows off - (even with seat back far enough that the bag should be on.)

If a passenger is in the seat when I start the car the bag is "on".
Thoughts or remedies anyone?

Is the passenger a child, I think it has a seat sensor based on weight.

Light weight or seat too close to dash can turn off the smarter airbag systems which I am sure it has;
but it happens with me in pass. seat, wife driving, two hour drive and still never indicated on.
