i'm basically trying to find a way to get that really nice steel knob thingy, and i can only assume it's somehow part of the ignition tumbler assembly

Are you trying to go from a keyed switch to a knob one? Not sure I'd that's gonna work. But gmpartsdirect.com should help out

i'm actually going to cannibalize the knob itself and pair it with an advanced key starter 104b module and use it in a completely different car

edit:
closest thing i can find is this parts diagram
http://www.trademotion.com/parts/2008/Cadillac/CTS/Base?siteid=214858&vehicleid=203260&diagram=BK08295&diagramCallOut=13
and i THINK i need part number 14....but part number 14 isnt listed?

another edit:
ok, found #14 here
http://parts.arniebauer.com/p/Cadillac__/Door-Lock-Cylinder-Ignition-cyl-Ignition-Lock-Assembly-Ignition-Lock-Cylinder-Lock-cylinder/48134335/20869121.html
BUT everywhere i look, that part is only the physical key model, i cant find the lock cylinder used in the remote start models

Don't use the base model for the search. Try thr premium model. It's just an ignition switch that the knob goes into. The switch is 20$

I'm striking out too. But the knob on my car looks like it is just held in with a set screw.
