Anyone ever had an issue with the parking brake light on the dash?

Took the CTS in for inspection earlier thinking it'll sail through, it fails.

One issue was a license plate bulb out (seems a stupid thing to fail on given the other works, but ok). The other was the parking brake light didn't come on in the dash. I can count on one hand how many times I've used that brake, so had no idea the light wasn't working, but, I need to figure out why it's not and repair it. Is there a harness on the rear brakes somewhere? Electrical contact to in the dash? Every search I'm trying is out returning results where the light stays on, mine is the opposite, it's not coming on.

I'm hoping it's a quick simple fix, but it has the potential to be frustrating.

It's likely either a fuse or the park position switch. The latter is a microswitch that is located right under the pedal lever. GM part number 22654577. It could be corroded or broken or whatever.

Those licence plate bulbs do fail and the sockets they go into also corrode - Inspect the sockets before you think you'll solve the problem with bulbs alone.

Good luck.

Thanks for that info, it will be nice if it's a fuse! Any idea if you can see the switch loooking up from the foot well?

One experienced those corroded bulb sockets on other vehicles, I'll probably grab a pair of bulbs but be prepared to clean the contacts as well. At least that one will be a simple fix.

Well, I love an easy fix.

Pulled the trim panel off earlier to try and see the microswitch, find it and am looking at how it comes out when I notice a thin orange wire just sort of loose looking in the area of the switch.

Pull it gently and it's not connected to anything... You know where this is going.

Plugged it in, pushed pedal and the light came on.

Free fix. Woohoo.
