I recently got the "Service Engine Soon" light on my 98 Deville concours and got the code P0105 from the PCM. I replaced the MAP sensor but that did not clear the fault. I still have the P0105 error. The wires going into the connector are in good shape and did not appear to be loose. Engine is running a little rough and hesitates a little more. The car was idling really rough one cold morning and almost stalled. That's when the light came on. Anybody got any ideas on what to try next since the MAP sensor appears to have not been the issue?

The MAP sensor relies on a hose to it to monitor manifold air pressure (MAP) if the hose is filled with ice or water, the sensor itself would not be able to read the pressure. Make sure the hose is intact on both ends and not drooping which could cause condensation to form inside the hose.

His MAP is inserted into the top of the throttlebody casting, held in by a tang on the throttle cable bracket. It acts directly on the intake manifold (vacuum) side of the throttle butterfly and senses inverse (negative) manifold pressure. MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure = the range from +14.7 psi to - 14.7 psi (+14.7 is sea level average barometric pressure; -14.7 is a vacuum - outer space, so absolute pressure spans a range of almost 30 psi). MAP is used to calculate part of the engine load/power equation.

Soooo... If there's a MAP signal code it might also be set by an air leak into the intake system at or after the MAF. Check all the ducting and band clamps on the rubber piping. Aftermarket MAF's and some so-called "CAI" installations will also set MAP, mixture, and MAF codes.

Don't quote me, but I believe some of these cars have the MAP inside the intake manifold. That would be a real PITA.

There's a picture of the MAP location for the 1998 - 2004 Northstar in my albums. (and of the "performance" MAF that sets odd codes........)

OK, I pressed the MAP sesnor down into the manifold to ensure it was completely seated, firmly reconnected the plug and then cleared the ODC. I restarted the engine and the "service engine soon" light is now off. Appreciate all the input to my original question!
