New radiator installed; some Dexron III lost when the cooling lines were removed and replaced. New ATF put in but now it’s overfilled. Almost a half gallon drained out but the dipstick level won’t go down. Thoughts?

Over filled.

Disconnect at radiator, connect hose from pipe to 5g bucket. Start/run car for a minute or so (monitor bucket). Reconnect everything. Refill .5qt at a time.

Or, you could just pump it all out. Refill with new dex vi. Look up spec quantity. Refill with all but last 2 qts. Slowly top off with remaining 2qts until proper level is achieved.

did you check/add with engine running, level ground, in park? Or did you check with engine off?

The dipstick has a “cold” line; I used both. Finally got the level right; it’s just below the full line now when it’s running and warm!

Check it once more after a fair distance (15 miles+) highway run. Right in the middle of the HOT hashmark, engine idling in P on a level surface.

It's a wonder the transmission vent tube didn't blow fluid all over the rear (driver's) end of the engine.
