Here's a report I just found....

CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI Case Number: 10191796
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Details: RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE. DIC DISPLAYED 17 GALLONS USED ON 20 GALLON TANK WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE 3 GALLONS REMAINING, I DIDN'T ASK THE AAA TOW TO BRING GAS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO CLEVELAND, WHERE THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CAR WAS ON EMPTY. THIS COST $60.03 PLUS NEARLY $200.00 WITH CAR RENTAL BACK TO MICHIGAN, THEN ADDITIONAL GAS AND TIME OFF WORK TO RETURN TO WORK TO PICK UP THE CAR. DIDN'T MIND THAT THE DEALER MADE ME FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. I ONLY WISH THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THAT THE DIC IS NOT RELIABLE. I COULD HAVE HAD AAA BRING GAS FREE OF CHARGE AND BEEN ON MY WAY. OBVIOUSLY, THIS REALLY UPSET ME.*AK

My DIC gallons used is now accurate although it did reset to 0 gallons used inexplicably before the DIC was replaced. Your srx's gallons used may be resetting to 0 w/o any input. Why didn't you call Cadillac for the freebee service? Out of warranty?

I'm surprised that this driver did not use a lighted match to physically check his fuel level before calling the tow service. AKs complaint seems to enforce the dealers observation.
Complaint: Vehicle would not start.

Details: Owner forgot keys..............................

duh

louisn - I'm happy to report that this isn't me...I just found this report. Thought it might be of interest to us on this SRX forum family.
How About The Good Old Fashioned Gas Guage?
I wonder what the gas gauge read when he ran out of gas?
In addition to watching the gas gauge (right in front of him), there is also the "Distance to Empty" display if they had just bothered to hit the Info button another click. I really can't feel too sorry for them.

Having said that, I have found that when I fill up that the "Gallons Used" display, which I had reset at the last fill up, is frequently less than the amount I put in the tank.
Distance to empty isn't useful when your running out of gas. It will register "Low" when you have 2-3 gallons left.

I am fairly sure the gauge is independent from the computer. EWILL will know.
Well, the most gas I have ever put in in a fill-up was about 18.3 gallons. This was about 20 miles after it was in Empty and gave me the "low fuel" pop-up on the nav system.

2-3 gallons left is Low in my estimation. :stirpot:

I agree. I fill up when it hits 1/4 tank in the summer and when it hits 1/2 tank in the winter.
