So I looked around and found the best deal I could on a set of Kooks long tube 7/8 headers with catted connection pipes for my V. After a through search, I got them from www.byunspeed.com . While I can't say exactly what I paid, I will say that it was significantly less, including shipping, than any advertised price I could find. Any one considering picking up a set should definitely call.

Anyway. I've reviewed the FAQ write up on installing these thing. My first question is, for those who have installed headers themselves, how hard is it really? Is it more or less complicated with a maggie?

Second, if I put these on myself, is it going to be safe to limp the car to my tuner (30 min drive) in order to get him to dial the car in?

Thoughts?

It'll be running pig rich, but it should be okay to limp there. You may even want to plug the 02 sensor bungs with a properly threaded bolt to avoid fouling them (just to be safe).

Any reason why you went for the 7/8 over the 3/4.?? i remember reading on here that the difference in power is negligible unless your gonna thrown on a FI system.

oh and whats the big secret about the price?? who should i ask for on the phone to get hooked up? i have been looking for a used set but $900 seems like a good price for a new set..

Lets just say it was under 1299 shipped (which is the absolute lowest price I could get shipped from anywhere else). Just call them and say that you want the same deal that tom gautreaux got on his headers - meaning you'll pay today if the price is right.

WE get $1200.00 (headers and cats) plus shipping (usually no more than $60.00). that price is good for 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 (give or take $20.00)
I got mine from Luke. :alright:

Can't beat the price especially it if your getting cats too. Those damn things are $$$!

....hey Luke is there some kind of 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" exchange program? ;)

You got 7/8 + catted midpipes for $999 shipped! Dang!

Let's just say that, other than $999 shipped, I still got the best deal out there.
I got mine from Luke for $1260 shipped .....plus I ordered the factory head gaskets instead of those useless kooks gaskets...all came in one pretty package!:highfive:

$1030.00 (PLUS shipping) everybady that gets headers also wants to get a pair of the GM OE manifold gaskets to go under them (22.00 for the pair). the ones that come with the kooks tend to leak soon after install
^^^^ exactly my point..qaulity parts and all the extra's with great service!!!

That's 'cause Luke and Lindsay hook us up!

I don't see any other dealerships organizing track days, going out of their way to provide us with access to aftermarket parts that would otherwise be unavailable, and providing top notch service and customer support!

 to Luke!

Regarding the install itself, the FAQ applies to B&B headers (if it's still Rick's writeup ... I haven't looked in a while), and is very applicable to Kooks except for one small item. For Kooks, you have to disconnect the steering shaft and swing it out of the way ... about 60 seconds of your time. Also, Rick did NOT mention reinstalling the dipstick tube. Make SURE you remember where the hole is relative to some mark on the motor, maybe a coil pack or something, 'cause you won't be able to see it at all. More than one guy has freaked out at suddenly not being able to locate that sucker again. I was one. :rant2:

Make sure you use antiseize compound on the headers bolts. I'd highly recommend removing the sparkplugs so you don't risk breaking one off and definitely use antiseize on them, too. The plug wires are a PITA to take off and put back on, so be ready for that.

I put my maggie on after the headers, but I wouldn't think there's too much that would be a problem with it already installed unless getting the coil packs off is more difficult.

Both of my arms from my elbows down to my fingers got scratched up ... looked like I'd been wrestling some big egg beaters ... and lost. You have to reach into some very tight spots, and hopefully your forearms don't look like Popeye's or you won't be able to get in there.

When you drive to your tuner, you should be okay as long as you can keep from being tempted to hear those babies roar. You're gonna love the sound!
