I'm looking at a V with an interesting history. It's a former manufacturer vehicle which I understand but it was built in May '11 but not titled until June '12 with only 10 miles on it. Any ideas where it would have been for 13 months without being driven? A show car perhaps? I asked the dealer but they just reiterated the CARFAX information.

Probably a show car. No worries.

How many miles on it now? (Assuming it's been driven more than 10 miles since June.)

You have to really watch. The one I was really interested in has a colorful history. The car was perfect being a 2011 Raven black Tremec 6060 sedan with recarros, panoramic sunroof and yellow brembos. However it was lemon lawed last February in the state of New York because the service suspension light was on and it would pop out of gear. The history the selling dealer showed me was the previous dealer replaced the cars supercharger no doubt because of the snout coupler. Well..... I called my local guys and they ran the VIN........ Yeah. It has been at the dealer probably over 20 times, mostly the service suspension issue, but radio problems, reverse synchro changed, throttle body swapped, trim falling off etc... Sounds like a wiring nightmare as no matter what they did with the service suspension message is always returning so they swap another piece, find a broken connector etc.

No thanks! My search continues lol.

You need to verify that there are no warranty blocks. Call any GM dealer and they should be able to tell you by the VIN.

Carfax is a start, but keep in mind, any accident NOT reported to the insurance company will not show on a CarFax report. I dumped a car a couple years back that was hit bad and had about 14K worth of repairs. It was perfect after the repairs but the dealer asked if it was in any accidents. I said yes. He asked if it was on CarFax yet and I said "No idea" he ran it and it was not there so he bought it and paid me good money. Probably not the most ethical thing as I'm sure it would have shown up within 90 days but all he cared about was that it was not showing when he bought it. All I'm saying is don't rely on CarFax as the only source of accident/warranty block information.

Thanks guys. I have the service history and it's very short. The only thing that's a little strange is the front seat cover and pad were replaced at 3,306 miles on 7/12/12. Quite a few miles in a month if the Carfax is accurate. The warranty was effective 6/14/11 but the car was not titled until 6/19/12. I am wondering if it was a captured test fleet vehicle. Not sure if those are titled from the beginning or not. It has a very early VIN (0100083). It is being advertised as the used car it is at well below MSRP.

A dealer/manufacturer does not need to title the car. They have special plates. I few years back I bought a dealer demo that had 10k miles but still had the MSO and was never titled. The warranty started from when they started using it not when first titled.

Thanks for the info. The strange thing is the 10 miles when titled (if that's correct) on 6/19/12 but warranty in effect on 6/14/11. Doesn't really make sense that a factory car would be driven that little in a year.

My demo had 4,500 miles on it. Titled as new. Got 0% financing as new.
