Bought my STS certified pre-owned (2005), and one of the promotions is 3 months of OnStar, which the dealer said they would set up for me. I pushed the blue button a few days ago and got a recording talking about the features and benefits of onstar, but then said it couldn't get a connection.

I saw something here about OnStar being digital now, so I'm guessing this means my car is still analog?

originally your car is/was analog. if they promised you 3 months, I would think it is their responsibility to upgrade it. I am on my way to my dealer now to upgrade my 05 onstar to digital. they told me it will take a couple hours. Let's hope... anyway, cost is 1yr's service or $199 with $15 for some fee or something so it is basically free as long as you commit to a year. but again if they offered it, I would say they owe you the upgrade. good luck!

I persevered the run-around to get the 3-month trial. I bought my '06 CPO before Christmas and it spent some time in the shop before I got around to beginning the process.

The salesman said to press the Onstar button twice but it kept saying that Onsatr was not activated. He then said to use the Emergency button. Still no joy. Finally, I called Onstar on my Cell phone and they ran a test... It failed and Onstar said go for service, there was a hardware problem.

When I finally took it to the dealer's service department again, they said nothing was wrong. Before I left the dealer I used the Onstar button to connect and got it set up.

I think I was getting bad information from evryone involved (intentional or not). It's working now. My trial is up May 19 and I'm going to cancel. The Bluetooth is good enough for me. I'm not going to pay $200 a year and $.25 a minute for a service I don't use.

We'll see if they will bargin in any way (2 cars? GM Card $? Etc?)

The going rate lately has been $149--got that on the STS and my C6 Vette.
